The Romney Factor

By Mona Austin

Article Background:  In 2012, the Republican party flaked on then candidate Mitt Romney when he did not deliver a win in his bid for the White House.  For years, the distance between the former Massachusetts governor and the GOP was clear.  Yet, still loyal to the party,  Romney entertained a possible second run, but could not drum up enough early support and said he would not re-run for the 2016 presidency. Last week her re-emerged in opposition of current  His voice did not go unnoticed.   Here I share an unpublished piece I wrote one month after the defeat that foreshadows the turmoil that now exists in the party and recognizes Romney's significant .

Voting Rights Act to be challenged in Supreme Court

buzzz worthy. . .

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a challenge to the landmark Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965. Opponents believe the VRA should be declared unconstitutional due to being out of date and irrelevant. The VRA was instituted to make discrimination tactics against minorities (blacks in particular)  illegal. The VRA was renewed in 2006.

Gen. Petraeus resigns, Pres.Obama responds

buzzz worthy. . .

General David Petreaus has resigned as the Director of the CIA.  Petraeus admitted to having an extramartial affair on his wife Holly  in a letter this on 11/09.  His alleged lover was Paula Broadwell, his biographer, a Harvard grad and 40-year-old mother of two.

The FBI was alerted that Broadwell had access to Patraeus' e-mail and learned of the affair when they began to monitor his account.

The timing of the resignation raises questions and speculation, namely does his departure relate to security failures around the Benghazi, Libya conflict, but no other reasons other than the personal one he offere were given.  The announcement came days before Petraeus was schduled to testify before Congress in the investigation about the Libyan attack and a few days after the election.

Gen. Petraeus  notified President Obama of his intent to resign a day before going public.
The four star general, an Army veteran who was married for 37 years said his behavior was not befitting of a leader in a memo that was sent to CIA staff:

Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position as D/CIA. After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation.

As I depart Langley, I want you to know that it has been the greatest of privileges to have served with you, the officers of our Nation’s Silent Service, a work force that is truly exceptional in every regard. Indeed, you did extraordinary work on a host of critical missions during my time as director, and I am deeply grateful to you for that.

Teddy Roosevelt once observed that life’s greatest gift is the opportunity to work hard at work worth doing. I will always treasure my opportunity to have done that with you and I will always regret the circumstances that brought that work with you to an end.

Thank you for your extraordinary service to our country, and best wishes for continued success in the important endeavors that lie ahead for our country and our Agency.

With admiration and appreciation,

David H. Petraeus

In the following statement, President Obama said Petraeus "made our country safer and stronger."

Statement by President Obama on the Resignation of CIA Director David Petraeus

David Petraeus has provided extraordinary service to the United States for decades. By any measure, he was one of the outstanding General officers of his generation, helping our military adapt to new challenges, and leading our men and women in uniform through a remarkable period of service in Iraq and Afghanistan, where he helped our nation put those wars on a path to a responsible end. As Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, he has continued to serve with characteristic intellectual rigor, dedication, and patriotism. By any measure, through his lifetime of service David Petraeus has made our country safer and stronger.

Today, I accepted his resignation as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. I am completely confident that the CIA will continue to thrive and carry out its essential mission, and I have the utmost confidence in Acting Director Michael Morell and the men and women of the CIA who work every day to keep our nation safe. Going forward, my thoughts and prayers are with Dave and Holly Petraeus, who has done so much to help military families through her own work. I wish them the very best at this difficult time.

This story is developing.

Jonathan Nelson to release full length CD in February 2013

buzzz worthy. . .

The Album's Title Single, "Finish Strong" is Available on iTunes and other Online Retail Outlets

(Detroit, MI - November 7, 2012) - Karew (pronounced: Kuh-rue) Records announces the CD release of Jonathan Nelson's first album on Karew Records, Finish Strong. The album will be in stores on February 26, 2013. The album's title single, "Finish Strong," is available on iTunes and other online retail. The single was released on Election Day, November 6.

A leader in urban contemporary worship and praise, Nelson penned the single with Kenneth Shelton. "Finish Strong" captures the message of the whole album-whatever God has for you to do, you must continue to go after it, never give up and finish strong. It is a universal message that will appeal to a broad audience. "I hope people will finish strong in whatever they are assigned to do in life," says Nelson. "It isn't about how well you start, but it is about how well you finish. You must run the race and do it with patience and endurance because it's not going to be easy. You're going to have some road blocks, detours and delays, but you have to finish strong." Nelson also hopes to use this song as a platform to promote healthy living, encouraging people to get their "minds, bodies and souls" intact; and he wants to use the universal themes of the song to bring people to Christ.

"On behalf of Bishop and Mrs. Sheard, we are thrilled to add Jonathan to the 'family' of Karew artists," says Darrell Thompson, General Manger of Karew Records. "We truly believe the message contained on the songs for the CD, 'Finish Strong' will encourage many people going through difficult times and we pray that Jonathan experiences much success with the project."

Nelson co-wrote most of the songs on the CD, which has something for every musical taste, from traditional church songs, to praise and worship, to choir songs. "My dad is more traditional and he always says 'son, you can't forget the old people,'" says Nelson. "I also wanted something that my son and daughter will be able to sing and rock to in the car. I want my music to be palatable to everybody, so I like to take a well-rounded approach to gospel music."

Finish Strong includes "Worked It Out," a song penned by Nelson as a tribute to Walter Hawkins and the Hawkins family. The song features Karen Clark Sheard. "Walter Hawkins left such great music," says Nelson. "I felt Karen would be the best person to join me on this song to give it that family dynamic that the Hawkins always had." Nelson believes people will really be blessed by the song, which reassures the listener that everything concerning them has already been worked out by God.

Jonathan Nelson's Finish Strong promotional tour will be announced in the coming weeks.

Malaco Music Group Signs Kevin Vasser

buzzz worthy. . .

Jackson, MS (November 9, 2012) - Malaco Music Group is proud to announce its
latest signing of Kevin Vasser, the Director of Worship and Arts at
Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago (Pastor Charles Jenkins,
Pastor) to an exclusive recording agreement.

Expect a full project (Untitled) from Kevin Vasser in 2013. The lead single
"Only You Can Deliver" featuring DeWayne Woods will be impacting radio soon.
D.A. Johnson, Executive Director - Gospel Division, Malaco Music Group
states," From the very moment I heard Kevin's voice singing "Only You Can
Deliver," I knew that this was a special song and it would touch the hearts
of millions."

Kevin started his singing career with the singing group Youth Edition, which
was comprised of his eldest brother and two cousins. Youth Edition's
introduction to the music industry was catapulted by the hit song "Anything
Is Possible" written and produced by the amazing song writer/producer Percy
Bady. The group won the WGCI Radio station competition singing gospel music
going up against R&B and hip hop acts. During that time Elroy Smith, was the
Operations Manager of WGCI FM/AM-Chicago, now Operations Manager of
WRNB/WPPZ Philadelphia and Inspiration Format Director for Radio One, and
was a major reason the song had the success that it did. From there Kevin
was lead to start a solo career. "It is truly an honor to be a part of the
Malaco Music Family" said Kevin. "I don't take lightly the rich tradition of
the label and I look forward to a long and successful relationship with
Malaco".

With this project produced by Kevin Vasser and his Music Director Phil
Feaster, of the Fred Hammond production team, it has all the ingredients to
be his career defining hit but more importantly it has the music to
encourage the nations.
