Parents Learn of Daughter's Death on Facebook

buzzz worthy. . .

My heart skipped a beat when I  read about parents learning of their daughter Jasmine Benjamin's death on Facebook.

Jasmine was a 17-year old nursing student at Valadosta State University in Georgia. One of her firnds posted comments about her passing on Facebook before the administration contacted her family. Her body was found in a study room where investigators say it lay for 15 hours. Initially it was reported that she died of natural causes, but this time lapse caused enough suspicion to turn the incident into a murder investigation. But how could the death of a popular student on a campus of 12,000 not be discovered for so may hours? Along with grieving over their loss the parents are now wondering if someone took their child's life.

This news saddens me.

Technology is completely stripping the nation (if not the world) of social etiquette. Pick up the phone. Ring a door bell. There is no substitute for the human connection uring the time of bereavement.
Don't lose yourself or your basic sense of decency just because FB has become a norm in commnicating with friends and family.

There are a lot of hurting people out there. Some of them have taken their lives in real time online or announced they would. Compare to that

RIP Jasmine.
