LiLo gets a light sentence

buzzz worthy. . .

Actress Lindsay Lohan is the luckiest woman in Hollywood.  She has been to court on various charges over 20 times and couldn’t tell you what it is like to have an extended stay on lock down.   “LiLo” dodged prolonged jail time once again Monday (March 18) when she appeared in a Los Angeles court. The 26-year-old star pled  no contest to reckless driving and lying to cops in relation to a 2012 car accident in the City of Angels.

For the misdemeanor charges she faced the judge sentenced Lohan to a mere  5 days of jail time, 90 days of lock down rehab (which only exists on Dr. Drew as far as we know),  30 days of community service and 18 months of psychotherapy. She will be allowed to complete the community service in New York, where she and her family reside  and is expected to serve the brief prison stint after a May 2 hearing.  At the hearing she must show proof of enrollment into rehab, a community service program and psychotherapy.

Arriving in Los Angeles by private jet almost an hour late (50 minutes), Lohan was  glitter bombed by an unidentified person upon entering the court.

Over the past 5 years the former child star has added serious accusations to her rap sheet from stealing a necklace from a store in L.A. shop to assaulting a woman in a New York bar.

Some  think the sentencing is too lenient and that an extended period behind bar will end the self-destructive journey Lohan is on.

“I don’t think she’ll ever get it unless she gets some jail time,”opined actress Holly Robinson Pete  on Access Hollywood Live.

Beyonce becomes face of H&M for Summer collection

buzzz worthy. . .

Beyonce is the new face of the H&M.

Attracted to the appeal of the entertainer's global brand, the Swedish retailer chose Beyonce as the featured model for their summer collection.  Beyonce will appear in all ads with the print and outdoor billboards introducing her as  "Beyoncé as Mrs. Carter in H&M.”  She will represent the idea that all women can be all things: strong, vulnerable, sensual, maternal, fun, flirtatious.  Here is more on the "fashionable" collaboration via press release:

“I’ve always liked H&M’s focus on fun and affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind. It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial,” says Beyoncé.
“H&M’s summer campaign starring Beyoncé is an epic fantasy, with glamour, drama and also a sense of paradise. It was amazing to watch her on the shoot make it all look effortless – a quality that makes her such an icon for women around the world. The campaign is the essence of Beyoncé, and also the essence of H&M this summer,” says Donald Schneider, Creative Director, H&M.
“In the campaign Beyoncé is wearing the key pieces from H&M you need for life in the sun this summer,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, Head of Design, H&M. “There’s the perfect bodycon dress, as well as a flowing sun dress that makes a real statement. And of course there are the bikinis, especially the fringed bikini. What makes these pieces even more special is that Beyoncé herself had input into the design, and they are full of her own personal style.”
The summer campaign features swimwear and beachwear pieces as well as a tie-dye bikini from this summer’s H&M for Water collection. 25% of sales from the H&M for Water collection will be donated to H&M for WaterAid. Since 2002, H&M’s initiative with WaterAid has raised £2,650,000.
The campaign images were shot in Nassau in the Bahamas by photographers Inez & Vinoodh, while the commercial was directed by Jonas Åkerlund. The commercial highlights the opposing nature of the four basic elements and will be available to view online in its entirety, with edited versions for TV. The commercial also features a new song from Beyoncé, Standing On The Sun, which will be available worldwide online and hm.com beginning May.
The summer collection will be available beginning in May in H&M stores worldwide and online.
Beyonce will kick off her sold out world tour on April 15.

VIDEO: "Mirror" by Justin Timberlake

buzzz worthy. . .

Upon his return Timberlake is ready to re-dominate the Pop world and has definitely brought sexy back -- this time is a more grown up sultry way.

On Tuesday (March 19) Justin Timberlake released "the 20/20 Experience," his first recording since 2006.  JT wore the stage out in  a preview of the material at the Grammys in a collaboration with Jay Z on the "Suit and Tie" single, which was a throwback to his last album and 1970s showmanship.  In this performance he was able to show he still had vocal ability and that his swag had not dissolved during the hiatus, as well as capture our interest in the new album.  That plan worked. An early forecast  indicates the record is going to surpass his previous record sales with Nielson BDS projecting over 750,000 by the end of this week according to Billboard.  The marketing and promotions plans for 20/20 were in full focus, offering the record exclusively at Target stacked with the new music video for "Mirror," which gave fans more of JT to love.

"Mirror" is a beautifully shot 8-minute long video that  starts out with calming strings and simmers into a mid-tempo infusion of Hip-Hop, Pop and R&B.  The song is about a couple growing together and continuing to be one over a lifetime. Unless you're MJ, eight minutes is long for a video, but the creativity and lyrical story in "Mirror" captivate until the end.

What's not the love about JT and his more mature suave look and sound? ( He has shed the curls ad opted for a more Sinatra-like hairdo.) Click here to read a review of the whole album that finds fault with almost every aspect of it.

Michael Baisden issues a " farewell letter"

buzzz worthy. . .

UPDATE: In a commentary Michael Baisden confirmed that his show is being cancelled,  saying he  is leaving radio involuntarily. In his post script the nationally syndicated radio star tells fans to "save a spot for me on the radio dial, I’ll be back sooner than you think."

Last week the Michael Baisden Show was dropped from WBLS in New York.  A petition was started on change.org to get the show back on air.  Over 25,000 supporters signed the online petition. Baisden stated on Facebook on March 20 that he and his staff were locked out of the Cunulus studio where they worked for nearly 10 years.

"In the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all get along?" Just because we couldn't come to an agreement is no reason to deprive the listeners, our affiliates, and our advertisers of only 9 days to say goodbye and show our appreciation. All their action does is make me more determined than ever to come back! And next time there will be no middlemen between me, my affiliates, and my listeners. Lesson learned!," he wrote.

The specific  details about his departure have not been released, although there are widespread reports that he Cumulus could not come to a mutual agreement during contract negotiations. Radio Facts reports that Cumulus locked out  Baisden  from the studio because they were upset that he went public about possibly leaving before negotiations were finalized. "The Michael Baisden Show" will continue its run through March 29 Baisden says in the following letter statement:

Michael Baisden Commentary: It’s Not About The Job It’s About The Journey (Yes, I'm leaving radio)

Who would have ever thought that a black man from the South Side of Chicago, with no college degree, no formal training in radio, TV, or writing, and the youngest son to a single 17 year-old teenaged mother with three children, would one day lead civil rights protest and help to elect the first black President. Life is truly amazing!

I am proud of what I have accomplished with my life and look forward to what is to come next. Life is full of new beginnings, whether it’s a new relationship or a new business venture; change is the one constant...and we must learn to embrace it.

For years I’ve encouraged you to step out on faith to live your dream, to never compromise your principles, and most importantly, not to be afraid to try something new, but above all else, dare to be different. Well, it’s time for me to practice what I preach!

When I began writing books in 1993, my only goal was to have a positive impact and challenge people to think outside the box. In 1995 I took that leap of faith and left my job with a four-year-old child to support, three thousand dollars in my pocket, and a dream. And as strange as this may sound, there was never a doubt in my mind that I would make it.

Call it cockiness or confidence, but I was determined that no force on earth was going to stop me from realizing my dreams. And after five best selling books, two stage plays, two televisions shows, three DVDs, and one of the most successful radio programs in history, I’m just getting started!

No, it was not my intention to leave radio, I had plans for The Michael Baisden Live Tour, my 10-year anniversary party in DC in July, and I was looking forward to being on the air this summer to get justice for Trayvon Martin and his family.

But sometimes fate, the universe, God, or however you want to label that undeniable force, has it’s own plans. Someone once told me that the greatest experiences in life are unplanned ones. I guess I’m about to test that theory.

The details about what happened are not important, what is important is that we stay connected. I will continue to say good morning and good night and post encouraging comments on Baisden Live on Facebook and Twitter daily, along with those breath-taking pictures. I hope you won’t get tired of reading my post now that I’ll have more time on my hands. lol

It’s been my honor and privilege to serve you everyday for the past 10 years from 3pm-7pm ET. No man on earth has more to be thankful for than me. Your support made it possible for me to take care of my family, invest in the community, and help inspire thousands of people to live their dreams. What’s bigger than that?

But before you go getting all mushy on me, this is not the end...it truly is the beginning, or as I like to say, it’s the next chapter.

I have already begun reaching out to leaders in the community to start building more mentoring programs and creating organizations that will allow us to network so that we’re prepared for the next Jena 6 and the next Trayvon, because there will be a next. Just because the mic goes silent doesn’t mean I will.

There’s an old saying that a man’s true character comes to the surface during times of adversity. Every stage of my career has been difficult, that’s the price you pay for standing by your principles and doing things the right way. I may not have the same paycheck come April 1st, but I will be able to look at the man in the mirror and be proud of the reflection that’s looking back at him, and that’s what being a real man or woman is all about, you must stand for something!

Although you may not hear my voice every day we can still stay connected. Make sure to join me on Baisden Live on Twitter and Facebook. We can’t blame, ”The Man” for our problems when we won’t even join a free website to communicate with one another to find out what’s going on.

The lights go out on Friday March 29th, so I’ll see you on the radio at 3pm ET tomorrow and every day until then to celebrate what “WE” have accomplished! And if there’s one thing I know how to do it’s throw a great Old School Party!

~ Michael Baisden

P.S. The only thing better than a going away party is a welcome back party! So, save a spot for me on the radio dial, I’ll be back sooner than you think. And when I do...it’s going to be hotter than ever!!!!

Bye Bye Baisden: The Michael Baisden show is being canelled

buzzz worthy. . .

Dallas - Nationally syndicated radio personality Michael Baisden announced a hiatus from his radio show today on his Facebook page this morning that will begin on April 1, 2013. Baisden, who commands a daily audience of over seven million listeners, states he is unable to discuss the particulars but concluded that a deal could not be made on mutually agreeable terms. Recognized as one of the most influential men in radio, his "Michael Baisden Show" is one of the top rated afternoon drive radio programs heard in the top urban markets.  He is also a TV talk show host, film-maker and New York Times best-selling author with nearly two million books in print.

Now in his tenth year on the air, Baisden wants his radio family to know he did everything in his power to continue his "Michael Baisden Show" without interruption. "We're already planning to return to the air as soon as possible in a way that will give the 'Michael Baisden Show' a more direct relationship with our affiliates, and most importantly, our listeners," cites Pamela Exum, his business manager.

Baisden began his career as an author, self publishing several best selling books including "Never Satisfied," "Men Cry In The Dark," "The Maintenance Man I and II," and "God's Gift to Women." Two of his books were adapted to stage plays, starring such renowned actors as Richard Roundtree and Billy Dee Williams.

His radio highlights include one of his proudest moments when on September 20, 2007, he passionately and skillfully spearheaded the famous Jena 6 March in Jena, Louisiana. This historic and momentous occasion garnered tens of thousands of citizens of all races to peacefully march in support of six young men who had been unfairly treated by the justice system.

Another historic year was 2008 when Michael Baisden endorsed Senator Barack Obama and went on to celebrate President Obama's victory with over 4,000 fans at a watch party in Miami on election night. The Obama camp, along with millions of listeners, credited him with being one of the major forces behind this historic victory to elect the first African American to the Presidency of the United States and in his re-election in 2012.

In December 2009, Baisden called for a National Mentor Training Day and announced his plans for a 2010 nationwide campaign. He pledged up to $350,000 of his own money to be donated in over 72 markets he would visit on a bus tour. The outreach was named "One Million Mentors National Campaign To Save Our Kids." His work with the Free Clinics, Trayvon Martin, Black & Missing Foundation, and national ongoing partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Mentoring Brothers In Action are all a big part of what made the "Michael Baisden Show" so successful.

Baisden still vows to continue his Michael Baisden Live Tour with his co-host, comedian George Willborn. It's a One Night Only event with seminars, networking, a comedy show, and an 'old school' after party. "If the affiliates still want us to come to town, we'll be there," says Baisden. "There's no reason for our relationships to stop, in fact, this is our chance to get on the ground close to the people where we belong!"

Baisden reflects, ""It's not about the job, it's about the journey.  I have been grinding for over 10 years, fighting for the underdog, inspiring people daily on my Michael Baisden Live Page on Facebook and working my butt off to produce the best show on radio. I hope my fans miss me... because I'm definitely going to miss them," Michael says. "But this is not the end, it's the Next Chapter!"
