David Beckham announces retirement

buzzz worthy. . .

International soccer star, David Beckham is retiring from the sport at the height of his career.  The Brit has played on both sides of the world, starting in  "Bloody Old England." Beckham has been a leading mid-fielder in Spain, in the US with the Los Angeles Galaxy and currently blazes fields in France with  Paris St. Germain (P.S.G.) where he departs with a Championship League title.  Beckham, 38, said in a statement that he will play his final game this season and is most proud of representing his country : “If you had told me as a young boy I would have played for and won trophies with my boyhood club Manchester United, proudly captained and played for my country over one hundred times and lined up for some of the biggest clubs in the world, I would have told you it was a fantasy,”Beckham said in a statement. “I’m fortunate to have realized those dreams.”

Beckham played in over 100 games in  England and represented his country in three World Cups games  (1998, 2002, 2006).

His dreams surpassed the field with a pop star wife by his side and marketing that put his face all over the globe with sports, fashion and fragrance brands.

“I’m thankful to P.S.G. for giving me the opportunity to continue, but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level,” Beckham said in a statement Thursday.

O.J. Simpson back in court

buzzz worthy. . .

O.J Simpson is back in court seeking a new trial.  This time he is pleading to a judge to re-try the case an armed robbery case for which he has already served 4 years of a 33-year sentence on armed robbery charges in 2007.  Simpson and a group of friends forcefully confronted sport memorabilia dealers in a Vegas hotel to seize dome of his most prized possessions he'd earned as a football star.

In court today the Heisman trophy winner said  he was misled by  Yale Galanter, the attorney he had at the time of the conviction.  Simpson testified that Galanter told him he was within his rights to take back property he believed had been stolen from him, "so long as there would be no trespass and no physical force used against the persons with the property." He also asserts the case should be re-tried because the former attorney never told him there would be consequences if he attempted to take back property that was no longer his. Arnelle Simpson, daughter of the 65-year-old football legend told the court she joined her father, the former attorney and his wife for dinner on the night before the incident occurred.

Life in the Vegas jail has been difficult for the aging athlete.

While serving time two years ago, Simpson was savagely attacked by Skin Heads for bragging about his conquests of White women. The steadily graying Simpson will be up for parole on this current sentence in 4 years. At his age and under the sometimes conditions, without the cooperation of the judge in this new case, one wonders if Simpson will make it out of prison alive.

O.J. Simpson was acquitted in the murder trial of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman 12 years ago.

Pace Sisters to share heavy family struggles with Iyanla on OWN

buzzz worthy. . .

Atlanta, GA - The world renowned gospel group, The Pace Sisters, will appear on an episode of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network's popular series "Iyanla: Fix My Life,"featuring spiritual life coach Iyanla Vanzant.  The episode will air on Saturday, May 18 at 9:00pm EST.

The Pace Family comprising of 9 real life sisters, 7 of which are in the group, The Pace Sisters: Latrice, DeJuaii, Melonda, June, Leslie, Duranice, and Lydia. The Pace Sisters released four albums and are considered one of gospel's stand-out female groups.

On the outside, the group seemingly has it all yet on the inside, the Pace family has struggled with a lifelong battle with weight. The family of a total of 10 siblings have been all challenged with weight loss and at age 54, their only brother, Murphy Pace passed away.

This year they made the decision to get their lives together and reclaim their health. Part of that commitment included seven of nine sisters agreeing to sit down with spiritual life coach Iyanla Vanzant. In a unexpected twist, Melonda, had a minor stroke (which she has 100% recovered from) before she even had the chance to speak with Iyanla. Iyanla works to help the sisters uncover and confront what has been "mentally and physically" weighing them down. The show taps into why obesity and weight issues seem to be a generational curse for this family.

When asked why they chose to make this change now Lydia explained "Prayer...and getting to the reason behind my actions and no longer masking the real reason." While Latrice said "self-awareness and an awareness that I hadn't tapped into the abundant life that has been made available to me."

In the process of taping the show, the sisters collectively committed to lose weight, adopt a healthier lifestyle and also decided to re-ignite their music career.  As part of this "new season" for the group, they recorded a new single, "Just Believe" produced by Teddy Riley. The project is being executive produced by The Pace Sisters and music business executive, Vivian Scott Chew, via their new partnership.   "Just Believe" will be available on iTunes and Amazon.com on May 14.  A new album is expected later this year.

Provocative Pastors head to reality TV on Oxygen

buzzz worthy. . .

NEW YORK, NY – May 13, 2013  Oxygen Media has teamed up with Lemuel Plummer, the creator and executive producer of “Vindicated” and producer of “The Sheards,” and Holly Carter, creator and executive producer of “106 & Gospel” and executive producer of “The Sheards,” for the network’s latest series greenlight, “Pastors of L.A.” (working title), an authentic new docu-series set to premiere in the fall of 2013. “Pastors of L.A.” will give viewers a candid and revealing look at six boldly different and world renowned mega-pastors in Southern California, who are willing to share diverse aspects of their lives, from their work in the community and with their parishioners to the very large and sometimes provocative lives they lead away from the pulpit.

“’Pastors of L.A.’ documents these larger than life characters who are rock stars in their communities, with a fresh, unique perspective that will resonate with our young audience,” said Rod Aissa, Senior Vice President of Original Programming and Development, Oxygen Media. “By teaming up with Lemuel and Holly who are some of the best creative minds in the business and heavily respected within this community, we can deliver this authentic series with integrity, while also staying right on brand with Oxygen.”

“We are delighted to work with Oxygen to develop this groundbreaking series on the extraordinary lives of some of the most prominent pastors in America,” said Lemuel Plummer. “I come to this project with a respect and understanding of their world, having grown up as the son of a pastor and religious broadcasters.  We intend to portray the human side of these pastors and the real world in which they live and work.”

“This show documents a journey of transparency from one man to the next as they endeavor to lead others to their own truth and self-discovery,” adds Holly Carter who holds a doctorate of divinity with an emphasis on marketplace ministry and is the daughter of a pastor and an industry veteran in faith and inspirational development and programming.  “It’s a dose of reality and a pound of redemption coming from a creative team reared in the church.”

Bishop Noel Jones (@BishopNoelJones)
A Jamaican born into poverty, Bishop Noel Jones has made his way to the other extreme, now living on a hilltop with a view of the Pacific Ocean, Malibu at his feet, and across the street from the former home of the late L.A. Lakers owner, Jerry Buss. The pastor of a church full of celebrities, and the brother of Grace Jones, Bishop Jones is headed towards retirement and looking for a successor who he can entrust his life’s work.  But finding the right man is harder than it sounds.
Deitrick Haddon (@DeitrickHaddon)
The son of a bishop and an evangelist, Deitrick was preaching at the age of eleven and conducting the church choir at thirteen.  At twenty-three he married the woman he was expected to marry – the lead soprano of the church choir.  However, everything didn’t continue as perfectly as the church had hoped. Deitrick and his wife got a divorce and the members of the church shunned him.  Aside from the call on his life, the one thing that helped him from hitting rock bottom was his music. A dynamic personality, singer, songwriter, and preacher, Deitrick finds himself at an impasse in life. Which road will he choose?
Bishop Clarence McClendon (@BishopMcClendon)
Bishop Clarence McClendon appears throughout the world on his weekly international broadcast, which is available in 250 million homes worldwide.  This charismatic and ubiquitous bishop has been noted for his contemporary and relevant approach to the Gospel. He believes the Gospel is not only for the down and out but for the up and out. His ministry spans from skid row to the estates of Bel Air.  When challenged about what many have called his prosperity Gospel, Bishop replies, “there is no other kind of Gospel.”
Pastor Wayne Chaney
At the age of twenty he got the call from God and has grown to become a prominent pastor of the church his grandfather built.  Fast-forward 10 years later, Antioch is the leading church in its community. With an ability to communicate complex truths in a simple way, Pastor Chaney has helped remarkably grow the church, along with the help of his secret weapon, his wife, gospel artist Myeshia Chaney. While Antioch is poised to become the next mega-church with the ability to reach millions worldwide, there’s an obstacle in the way and it comes from within Pastor Wayne’s own family.
Bishop Ron Gibson
Born in Compton, addicted to drugs before he was a teenager, a leader of the Crips by the time he was sixteen, a robber and a pimp, Bishop Ron Gibson was the least likely person to end up a preacher.  He now changes the lives of 4,500 people each week at the Life Church of God in Christ, which he started with only nine people in the congregation.  Through it all he’s accumulated great wealth, power and purpose.  However, there’s one thing he and his wife would give it all away for – a child.
Pastor Jay Haizlip (@jayhaizlip)
One of the pioneering greats of competitive skateboarding, Pastor Jay Haizlip, originally from Gadsden, Alabama, collected big trophies, bigger paychecks and high-end sponsors, but fell deep into drugs, and into the crack houses of Huntington Beach and Long Beach, California.  Back in the crack houses again, this time he’s not there for drugs – he’s helping rescue souls for the Kingdom.  Serving as Senior Pastor of The Sanctuary of Huntington Beach, Pastor Jay Haizlip reaches out to troubled youth, finding them in prisons, skate parks and the same crack houses he once shot dope in.
“Pastors of L.A.” (working title) is produced by L. Plummer Media in association with Relevé Entertainment, with Lemuel Plummer, Holly Carter and Chris Costine serving as Executive Producers.
