RCA Records Announces Label Deal with Gospel Icon Kirk Franklin

buzzz worthy. . .

RCA Records  has entered a long-term label deal with Gospel music icon Kirk Franklin to establish Fo Yo Soul Recordings, an inspirational music label which will showcase some of the genre’s most talented emerging artists and established performers.

Under the agreement, Mr. Franklin and the Fo Yo Soul Recordings team will sign and develop emerging inspirational music talent, while RCA Records will provide the marketing, promotion and distribution muscle for Fo Yo Soul artists.   In addition, Mr. Franklin’s future recorded output will be released on the Fo Yo Soul Recordings label.
“We are thrilled to be Kirk’s partner. He is a one of a kind artist and music executive who brings his unique insight to inspirational music. We look forward to welcoming the new talent he will bring to the roster,” states Tom Corson, President & COO RCA Records.

“I’ve been blessed to be with RCA Records as an artist, so I know firsthand that the team that Tom and Peter have assembled are among the most creative and hardworking in the music business,” said Mr. Franklin.  “Expanding our business relationship in a way that empowers my team to identify and develop great new artists is really a dream come true for me.  We’ve already been hard at work and I am very excited to be able introduce the world to some amazing new talents in the coming months.”

The first release under the new deal will be the debut album from the Gospel vocal quartet, The Walls Group, four siblings from a family of 10 who have been immersed in inspirational music since birth.  Continuing in the tradition of such groups as the Jackson 5 and The Clark Sisters, the four young Walls’ siblings, while firmly anchored in Gospel tradition, bring a freshness and hip factor which is sorely missing in the genre today.

In addition to The Walls Group, Franklin has secured the rights to release the debut album from the next winner of BET’s Gospel music competition show, “Sunday Best,” which Kirk has hosted and Executive Produced for the last six seasons. The debut album from this season’s winner is expected in Spring 2014.

For nearly two decades, Franklin has been a multi-platinum-selling pioneer in gap-bridging musicianship, uniting audiences across Gospel, hip hop, pop and R&B. His irresistible rhythms and rhapsodies have resulted in albums that consistently top both Billboard's Gospel and Christian charts, and have ascended triumphantly into the Top 10 of the R&B/Hip Hop charts. To date, Kirk Franklin has garnered nine GRAMMY© Awards, 39 Stellar Awards, 16 Dove Awards (CCM), eight NAACP Image Awards, two BET Awards, an American Music Award, a Soul Train Award and numerous others.

His unprecedented penetration into the mainstream has fortified him to also become a New York Times bestselling author for The Blueprint: A Plan for Living Above Life’s Storms (Gotham/Penguin). Franklin is also the host and executive producer of the Gospel talent show "Sunday Best," the highest-rated Gospel program in BET network history now in its sixth season. In addition, Kirk is the co-host of the successful television show “American Bible Challenge,” which is now embarking on its second season on the Game Show Network.

More recently, Mr. Franklin has been hard at work alongside the House of Blues creating a new Gospel brunch experience, Kirk Franklin’s Gospel Brunch at House of Blues, which debuted earlier this year.  In addition, Kirk established a Gospel Music channel at SiriusXM radio, Kirk Franklin’s Praise which debuted this spring and features programming hand curated by Franklin.

Sweet Brown is hoping to make a fortune off of her misfortune with new products and reality show

buzzz worthy. . .

Internet sensation Sweet Brown is cashing in on the misfortune that made her a Youtube sensation.

The worldwide web met Kimberly Brown, AKA Sweet Brown, in a news clip in April of 2012.
In the video Brown is telling a local reporter how she reacted to an apartment fire. Brown said she initially thought she was smelling bar-b-que, but later realized the building was burning exclaiming, "Oh Lord Jesus it's a fire!" She went on to say she caught Bronchitis from smoke inhalation and concldued the interview with the catch phrase that spread like wildfire: "Ain't nobody got time for that."

The viral Youtube video, which gained 2 million views in 2 days,  helped launch Sweet Brown's career and business.

The former day care worker mangaged to extend her 15 minutes of fame by appearing on television shows (she was on The Views in July) and in commercials.  Soon she'll be packing her bags and moving  Be-ver-ly. . Splitsville: Former manager gets fired and sues Mary Mary; group hires new manager

At Megafest in Dallas last Friday, Erica Campbell of Mary Mary announced the hit WeTV reality show, "Mary Mary will be returning for a third season--this time without their former manager, Mitchell Solarek (Donald Lawrencec, Natalie Grant).

A representative for the group said Solarek no longer has anything to do with Mary Mary either on or off camera.  The representative said his replacement is Kenneth Crear (Ciara, Kardashians, Mindless Behavior), an entertainment exec with strong ties to mainstream.

But Solarek isn't walking away quietly.  The ousted manager, who landed the reality show for the group, has filed a lawsuit alleging the duo owes him over $75,000 in outstanding commission and the loss of money he could be earning from music, merchandising, book sales and sponsorships.

TMZ reports Solarek's company, Maximum Artist Group  filed a federal lawsuit against the group in Tennessee claiming "in 2011  helped "reignite" their career ... securing deals worth over $3 million."

Solarek came on board as the group's new manager with the release of their fifth studio album, "Something Big" (featuring the hit "I'm Walking").

Although their record sales have not always been reflective of their chart status, Mary Mary was already an in-demand group prior to Mitch coming on board.  According to a 2011 press release, during their career, Erica and Tina have sold upwards of five million albums. In a remarkable and still ongoing story, Mary Mary's 2008 release, The Sound topped multiple charts and   racked up a string of awards, including 2 Grammys, an American Music Award, a BET Award, a Soul Train Award, and an NAACP Image Award, among others. With such a track record it's hard to understand what aspect of their career needed to be "reignited."

We'll be bringing you more on this as details unfold.

Mary Mary's camp said they will not be responding to the accusation at this time.
