Massive lay-offs at Microsoft loom

Microsoft will make the joblessness math easy for the U.S. Labor department with its recent announcement of plans to let go of 14% of its workforce.   Over 18,000 positions will be eliminated over the next year to "to simplify its organization and align the recently acquired Nokia Devices and Services business with the company’s overall strategy" according to the company press release.  About 12,500 professional and factory positions will be vacated by Dec. 2015.  This is the second largest round of lay offs in the company's 39-year history.
