LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Thursday Night Football host and NFL Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, Boxing Legend Sugar Ray Leonard, R&B Star Brian McKnight, Music Legend Stephen Stills, NFL Hall of Famer Andre Reed, PGA pro Duffy Waldorf, Actor Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger; Justified) along with over 150 other stars from TV, sports, music, film and medicine will hit the links to support cancer research and change the future of cancer at Tower Cancer Research Foundation's (TCRF) Inaugural Jack Mishkin Memorial Golf Classic on Monday, November 3, 2014 at El Caballero Country Club, 18300 Tarzana Drive, Tarzana, CA 91357. Arrivals and media availability from 8 AM - 10 AM PST; Helicopter Ball Drop at 9:45 AM PST.
The tournament honors philanthropist, business and community leader Jack Mishkin, an avid golfer, whose life was cut short earlier this year by Mesothelioma, a devastating disease. TCRF's Jack Mishkin Memorial Cancer Fund is primarily focused on Mesothelioma and related cancers since the treatment for one type of cancer can often be utilized to slow the progress of others as well. Funds generated by the tournament will be directed towards funding a multi-year study to help uncover new and innovative therapies for cancer. Currently, fewer than 10% of people with Mesothelioma live at least 5 years and most survive only 12 to 21 months.
TCRF has been the Southern California cancer patient's greatest ally since 1996. The foundation is known for its stellar reputation professionally vetting cancer research programs and maximizing the impact of donor-investors. TCRF provides grants for clinical trials, innovative cancer research, caring patient support and community education. In line with its mission to advance local cancer research on every level, TCRF supports pioneering and talented physician scientists from the Southern California community with awards of annual grants to those doing cutting edge bench-to-bedside lab research. TCRF's free patient support services include patient mentoring, cancer support groups, groundbreaking workshops and support for caregivers.
