Grammy Award Winner To Be Inducted Into Gospel Music Hall of Fame April 29th

After over three decades of introducing the best and brightest names in gospel music to the globe via his weekly BET “Bobby Jones Gospel” (the longest running show in cable TV history), Dr. Bobby Jones is reminding the world that he’s a Grammy Award winning recording artist too. The 75-year old TV emcee’s first CD in seven years, “Rejoice with Me” (EchoPark JDI/ Caroline Distribution) debuts at #5 on next week’s Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart – the highest debut in the legendary personality’s career. “I’m thrilled that the public has responded in such a big way,” says Jones. “I pray that the music continues to inspire people.”

This soul-stirring, twelve-track set is comprised of original music and features backing vocals and solos by members of NSC (Nashville Super Choir) that regularly performs on Jones’ TV show. The project boasts cameos by some of R&B’s most incomparable voices such as Faith Evans who leads the title cut, Howard Hewitt and Ann Nesby. Former R&B artist, Tommye Young West, who’s been recording in the gospel field exclusively for the last three decades, delivers a Pentecostal rout on the feverish, “Right Now Praise.” NSC member Jamal Carter leads the mellow, “Created For Worship.” The thunderous voice of Shawn McLemore ignites the fiery  “Let’s Praise The Lord” and Renee Spearman offers the smooth urban AC track, “Nothing Without You.” The album closes with a rousing Chicago-styled remix of “Rejoice with Me.”

On April 29th Jones will be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame alongside Take 6, the late Rich Mullins, Take 6 and producer Brown Bannister. Since the late 1970s, Dr. Jones has released a dozen LPs or CDs. Jones, who has an earned Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University, also hosts the syndicated weekly radio programs “Bobby Jones Countdown” that airs on over 100 radio stations. Jones formed the New Life Singers in 1975. He later expanded the group’s membership and changed its name to NSC (Nashville Super Choir).  He and the choir circle the globe every year, spreading its unique style of gospel in concert halls and at music festivals.

DC Councilwoman Murial Bowser, 41 unseated Vincent Gray in the DC primary mayoral race on April 1.  The final tally  was 44% to 32%, separated by some 9,000 votes. The now former mayor has conceded.

The latter part of Gray's career was wrought with scandal, a factor Bowser, an ex-DC Mayor Andrian Fenty mentee, used against him.

Gray was the subject of a federal investigation that alleged he accepted a $425,000 campaign donation in 2010 from billionaire contractor, Jeffrey Thompson (code name "Uncle Earl"), in exchange for business favors. The embattled former mayor denied those allegations, but Thompson two weeks ago Thompson pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges for a lesser sentence.
Who Bowser will face in the general election is yet to be determined.

Sara Jakes addresses being a teen mom in new book, "Lost & Found"

buzzz worthy. . .

By Mona Austin

By becoming a mom at the tender age of 14, Sarah Jakes shamed her family and was shunned by friends.  The reality of her pregnancy was especially painful considering her father, Bishop T.D. Jakes is one of the most recognized spiritual leaders in the world.

In an appearance on "Good Morning Dallas" Sara addressed how she "found" herself.   "I think that when I had my son at such an early age, that I dealt with a lot of shame and pressure, I found myself in bad relationships just constantly giving myself away. As I really desired to live my life for God, I found those pieces that I gave away and I learned to love myself again."

The 25-year-old mother of two also talked to Kathy Lee and Hoda about her new memoir, "Lost and Found" on Today. She said out of the respect for the father of her 11-year-old son she has never released his name and wanted the book to be solely about her journey.

Ms. Jakes had a daughter (now age 4) from her union with NFL baller Robert Henson that ended in divorce. The biography is intended to reach anyone whose past is weighing them down.  "Lost & Found;" Finding Hope in the Detours of Life" is available for purchase on Amazon.com.
