Hinton Battle in CINDY

3 Time Tony Award Winner, Hinton Battle, joins the cast Off Broadway Producer/Director, Stepp Stewart, breathes new life into a forgotten story. Cindy, the 1978 television special, loosely based on Cinderella, lives again. The Director has adapted the musical from the small screen to the big stage at Porter Sanford III Performing Arts Center for a One Night Only Performance, Wednesday, September 10th @ 8:00pm. The 3 time a tony award winner HInton Battle will play the role of James, Cindy's Father. The DC native rose to fame on Broadway as the original Scarecrow in THE WIZ and went on to win the Tony Awards for THE TAP DANCE KID, SOPHISTICATED LADIES, and MISS SAIGON. The New York/ Atlanta cast consist of Michelle M. Robinson, who appeared in the Tony Award winning revival of CHICAGO for 12 years, Danette Sheppard, SMOKEY JOES CAFE, local singing sensations, Avis LaShawn, Ronda Reese Heaggans, Jamie Moreen of VH1's SINGLE LADES, and Atlanta's own Tri-Cities High School alumni, Dri Jack, in the title role of Cindy. The cast is currently in rehearsal and recording the Pre-Broadway soundtrack. Broadway Veteran, Stepp Stewart, often seen on The Emmy Award winning Dr. Oz Show, has written all new songs as well as choreographed and written enhancements to the book, making it work for the stage. He has had continued success with his family friendly. productions, SHOW N TELL The Musical and the smash hit, Stepp Stewart's A SOULFUL CHRISTMAS, which will run in Houston, TX and Atlanta, GA this holiday season. Along with being a television personality he is an Emmy Nominated song writer.Cindy (The Fairy-tale Musical) set in Harlem 1943, tells the story of a southern girl, who is reunited with her father and anxious to meet her new stepmother and sisters. Derrick "Doc" Johnson remakes Marvin Gaye Classic "God Is My Friend"

(Atlanta, GA) - September 3, 2014 -IAM Music Company Inc. in association
with Gospel artist Derrick "Doc" Pearson, proudly announces the release of
his version of "God Is My Friend" - the spiritual melodic tune originally
done by Motown Great - MARVIN GAYE. This six-minute track features Pearson's
best friend - the late Al Johnson.

The song is delivered from the tribute album to AL JOHNSON'S "It's Alright".
Partial Proceeds from this tribute album will benefit the Washington DC area
of the National Diabetes Association in honor of Al who passed away from
complications relating to the disease. 

After writing and producing for legendary R&B artists, TV and movies,
Pearson has now completed his homage to the life of a musical giant with
this special collection of encouraging, adult contemporary, songs and music
video featuring amazing poignant vocal performances by Al Johnson. 

This anointed CD project presents Derrick's production and composing gift in
a captivating blend of gospel, contemporary, urban and inspirational
Christian music. This project confirms their friendship over the years.
Alfred Orlando "Al" Johnson, Jr. formed the R&B group UNIFICS in the 1960s
and was lead vocalist on their hits "The Court Of Love" [Billboard R&B #25]
and "The Beginning Of My End" [Billboard R&B #36]. After the group split, Al
began a long string of studio projects as a session musician, songwriter,
arranger and producer. In the '70s, Al worked with Norman Connors and Jean
Carne. In the '80s, he was a mainstay writing, producing and playing for the
likes of the Whispers, Roberta Flack, Peabo Bryson and more.

The Howard University alum left behind a wife, three sons and one daughter
and five grandchildren. In 2004, his group the UNIFICS reunited for a series
of concerts and one album.

Al & Doc recorded together in the 80s and continued for nearly 20 years with
nearly 100 songs. Al scored a smashing success with Jeff Majors "Sacred"
series. Al passed away October 26, 2013.

No stranger to this game called 'the music business', Derrick Pearson "Doc"
once composed and produced hits for legendary R&B/Pop artists as The O'Jays,
The Whispers, The Dells and many more. His music and songs were also used in
major television shows and movies such as Miami Vice, The Equalizer and
Inside NBA Stuff.

President Obama gets flack for his fashion sense

There were two award shows last week (VMAs and Primetime Emmys) showcasing plenty of celeb style, but the person who got the most buzz about his fashion sense was non other than President Barack Obama. Nevermind the crisis in Syria that was the primary focus of the press conference the presidentheld. America had more important things to focus on like the tan summer suit Obama was sporting as he addressed one of the most pressing matters in world affairs and current events.  The web went wild with comments, both good and bad.

NFL stiffens penalties for domestic violence offenders; Ray McDonald arrested for domestic violence following policy changes

The NFL has announced new penalties against players who are charged with acts of domestic violence.  League Commissioner Roger Goddell said, "We have to do better and we will" regarding stricter disciplinarian action amid criticism for their initially lenient response to the suspension of the Baltimore Ravens' Ray Rice. Under the new policy players will be suspended six games for first offense and be struck with a  lifetime ban for a second. Rice was suspended for two games.

Two days after  announcement, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald will be the first to feel the effect of the policy change. He was arrested early Sunday morning on felony domestic violence charges. According tot he NFL media, McDonald was released on bail on the same day.

Two celeb couples tie the knot after long engagements

Two celeb couples that have been engaged for years have finally tied the knot. Dewayne Wade and Gabrielle Union said "I do" this weekend and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got married last weekend. Both couples opted for intimate ceremonies with close family and friends. The Pitts wed in France while The Wades kept it state side and took their vows in Miami. Congratulations to both couples!
