DIVERSITY GONE WRONG: "New" KKK leader actively recruiting Blacks, others

buzzz worthy. . .

By Mona Austin

Black people are now welcome to join the White supremacist hate group  known  for targeting and terrorizing them historically, the Klu Klux Klan (KKK).

John Abarr
As a part of its "re-branding" campaign, a new off-shoot of  the Klu Klux Klan, The Rocky Mountain Knights, has an open door policy. Its founder, John Abarr has relaxed age-old membership requirements to accept people of all races, gays and Jews.

The Montana  based leader plans to continue the tradition of wearing hoods, although he said his views have evolved.   The focus of Abarr's "new Klan"  is to stand against a new world order.  He met with NAACP leader under heavy security  in Wyoming last year to discuss violence against black men and racial issues among other things.

"The KKK is for a strong America," Abarr told The Great Falls Tribune newspaper. "White supremacy is the old Klan. This is the new Klan."

But so far recruitment is not working well for Abarr.  tMark Pitcavage of the Anti Defamation League said he has been rejected by other Klan Groups and suspects he is the only member of the Rocky Mountain Knights. "He's one guy, pretending to start a Klan group," Pitcavage told the Daily News.

Abarr was entrenched in the organization before deciding to branch out on his own and denouncing discriminatory practices.  He may be confused in thinking he can still associate with the KKK brand and change the agenda the organization stands for, a choice Imperial Wizard of the United Klans of America  Bradley Jenkins said is politically motivated. According to Jenkins, Abarr could not use the KKK title for his initiative.  Said Jenkins, "That man's going against everything the bylaws of the constitution of the KKK say."

“I like it because you wear robes, and get out and light crosses, and have secret handshakes,” Abarr said, according to the Casper Star-Tribune. “I like being in the Klan -- I sort of like it that people think I’m some sort of outlaw.”

"He's trying to hide behind the KKK to further his political career," Jenkins added.

Power Players Converge to Make Continuing Education Applicable, Accessible and Affordable at the T.D. Jakes School of Leadership Powered by Regent University

Dr. Steve Perry, America’s Most Trusted Educator, joins forces with prolific entrepreneur and best-selling author T.D. Jakes, business guru Daymond John of ABC ‘Shark Tank’ fame and other top industry experts to equip adult learners with high caliber, intensive continuing education in an easily accessible, affordable and flexible online environment
Success in the fast-changing landscape of the modern workforce requires proper, ongoing education and training amid a talent pool that is increasingly diverse, tech-savvy, global-minded and entrepreneurial. However aspirational and talented today’s workface may be, employment demand often exceeds supply, making competition for jobs stiff and increasing hiring/candidate qualification standards in kind.

In fact, by 2020, it is expected that fully 65 percent of job openings will require at least an associate’s degree, while 35 percent will require a bachelor’s degree. Even so, having a college education or being exceptional at what you do will no longer suffice when you need to stand out from the crowd. Continued specialized education and training will, however, help success-minded professionals break through career stagnation barriers and successfully realize growth opportunities.

According to the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics, demand for continuing education for adults aged 35 or older will continue to grow through 2016. Despite compressed national median family income and claims that higher education might be overpromising and under-delivering, the underlying value proposition for continuing education persists.

The T.D. Jakes School of Leadership (TDJ-SOL) instituted by Regent University’s Professional & Continuing Education division (PCE) and championed by esteemed education authority Dr. Steve Perry, have joined forces with key industry leaders and field experts to offer fully accredited, industry-focused curriculums comprised of online business/leadership institutes and specialized certificate programs. These programs are designed for professionals, emerging and established leaders, knowledge workers in transition and retirees striving to “chart a course” for the next phase of their lives.

TDJ-SOL’s world-class courses and programs, including The Women’s Leadership Institute and The Daymond John Certificate in Entrepreneurship with marketing classes taught by ABC-TV Shark Tank star Daymond John, himself, are expertly engineered for adult learners seeking concentrated continuing education opportunities that will help them grow and excel in their professional and personal development.
The Women’s Leadership Institute
It’s been proven that women in leadership roles can have a beneficial impact on business bottom lines, however many find themselves struggling to be effective in senior levels of leadership. TDJ-SOL’s Women’s Leadership Institute is a transformational, intensive leadership program that helps women refine effective leadership behaviors and competencies that will help them excel in the workplace. “More and more corporations recognize that gender diversity is good for business,” said Dr. Perry. “There is clear evidence that companies that are intentional about recruiting and retaining women, and promoting them to top positions, experience superior business results, including increased profitability.”

Studies also reveal minority women in entrepreneurship is on the rise. According to a report released last year (August 2013) by the Center for Women’s Business Research, Hispanic and African-American women are the fastest growing entrepreneurial segments in the country, growing at rates of 133.3 percent and 191.4 percent, respectively, from 1997 to 2007.

Further, studies show that African American and Hispanic women are three to five times more likely to start a business than their white counterparts. Combined, they represent more than two million of the roughly eight million women-owned businesses in the country and more than $14 billion in gross receipts.
The Daymond John Certificate in Entrepreneurship
Led by ABC-TV Shark Tank star Daymond John, this TDJ-SOL certificate program is for aspiring entrepreneurs, junior and mid-level managers or anyone seeking practical business skills like identifying market trends, introducing a product or service that is in-demand and strategies to structure and grow a business. This program promotes a greater understanding of entrepreneurial business management and the keys to successful business practice. Among other outcomes, students learn what it takes to lead a sustainable business into the future; how to be an effective manager; building cash-flow, profit-loss statements and balance sheets; balancing objectives for expansion, new ventures or projects with quality and risks; and developing, introducing and presenting ideas to management or investors.

The courses and programs at the TDJ-SOL include high performance sales training, project management, world class consulting and accounting and financial management. Additional programs include digital media, K-12 cultural diversity, homeland security, paralegal studies, pastoral/worship leadership and traumatology.

“For many adults, continuing education is an opportunity to increase their knowledge, information or skills in an effort to either ensure greater success in the workplace, expand their basic skills or receive credentials and ultimately to enrich the quality of their lives,” notes Dr. Perry. “The T.D. Jakes School of Leadership is an exciting distance learning option that makes quality educational tools accessible and affordable to adults seeking to establish or advance their careers at any age or stage of their lives or professional standing. Whether someone wants to change or accelerate their career, the most sound investment will always be in them self in order to achieve their full potential.”

Statement by the President on Net Neutrality

buzzz worthy. . .

Today, in a statement and video message posted online, President Obama announced his plan for a free and open internet.  The president made his position on stricter FCC Internet regulations known while on a trip to China to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinpin.  The text of the President’s statement is below:

An open Internet is essential to the American economy, and increasingly to our very way of life.  By lowering the cost of launching a new idea, igniting new political movements, and bringing communities closer together, it has been one of the most significant democratizing influences the world has ever known.

“Net neutrality” has been built into the fabric of the Internet since its creation — but it is also a principle that we cannot take for granted.  We cannot allow Internet service providers (ISPs) to restrict the best access or to pick winners and losers in the online marketplace for services and ideas.  That is why today, I am asking the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to answer the call of almost 4 million public comments, and implement the strongest possible rules to protect net neutrality.

When I was a candidate for this office, I made clear my commitment to a free and open Internet, and my commitment remains as strong as ever.  Four years ago, the FCC tried to implement rules that would protect net neutrality with little to no impact on the telecommunications companies that make important investments in our economy.  After the rules were challenged, the court reviewing the rules agreed with the FCC that net neutrality was essential for preserving an environment that encourages new investment in the network, new online services and content, and everything else that makes up the Internet as we now know it.  Unfortunately, the court ultimately struck down the rules — not because it disagreed with the need to protect net neutrality, but because it believed the FCC had taken the wrong legal approach.

The FCC is an independent agency, and ultimately this decision is theirs alone.  I believe the FCC should create a new set of rules protecting net neutrality and ensuring that neither the cable company nor the phone company will be able to act as a gatekeeper, restricting what you can do or see online.  The rules I am asking for are simple, common-sense steps that reflect the Internet you and I use every day, and that some ISPs already observe.  These bright-line rules include:

·         No blocking.  If a consumer requests access to a website or service, and the content is legal, your ISP should not be permitted to block it.  That way, every player — not just those commercially affiliated with an ISP — gets a fair shot at your business.
·         No throttling.  Nor should ISPs be able to intentionally slow down some content or speed up others — through a process often called “throttling” — based on the type of service or your ISP’s preferences.
·         Increased transparency.  The connection between consumers and ISPs — the so-called “last mile” — is not the only place some sites might get special treatment.  So, I am also asking the FCC to make full use of the transparency authorities the court recently upheld, and if necessary to apply net neutrality rules to points of interconnection between the ISP and the rest of the Internet.
·         No paid prioritization.  Simply put: No service should be stuck in a “slow lane” because it does not pay a fee.  That kind of gatekeeping would undermine the level playing field essential to the Internet’s growth.  So, as I have before, I am asking for an explicit ban on paid prioritization and any other restriction that has a similar effect.

If carefully designed, these rules should not create any undue burden for ISPs, and can have clear, monitored exceptions for reasonable network management and for specialized services such as dedicated, mission-critical networks serving a hospital.  But combined, these rules mean everything for preserving the Internet’s openness.

The rules also have to reflect the way people use the Internet today, which increasingly means on a mobile device.  I believe the FCC should make these rules fully applicable to mobile broadband as well, while recognizing the special challenges that come with managing wireless networks.

To be current, these rules must also build on the lessons of the past.  For almost a century, our law has recognized that companies who connect you to the world have special obligations not to exploit the monopoly they enjoy over access in and out of your home or business.  That is why a phone call from a customer of one phone company can reliably reach a customer of a different one, and why you will not be penalized solely for calling someone who is using another provider.  It is common sense that the same philosophy should guide any service that is based on the transmission of information — whether a phone call, or a packet of data.

So the time has come for the FCC to recognize that broadband service is of the same importance and must carry the same obligations as so many of the other vital services do.  To do that, I believe the FCC should reclassify consumer broadband service under Title II of the Telecommunications Act — while at the same time forbearing from rate regulation and other provisions less relevant to broadband services.  This is a basic acknowledgment of the services ISPs provide to American homes and businesses, and the straightforward obligations necessary to ensure the network works for everyone — not just one or two companies.

Investment in wired and wireless networks has supported jobs and made America the center of a vibrant ecosystem of digital devices, apps, and platforms that fuel growth and expand opportunity. Importantly, network investment remained strong under the previous net neutrality regime, before it was struck down by the court; in fact, the court agreed that protecting net neutrality helps foster more investment and innovation.  If the FCC appropriately forbears from the Title II regulations that are not needed to implement the principles above — principles that most ISPs have followed for years — it will help ensure new rules are consistent with incentives for further investment in the infrastructure of the Internet.

The Internet has been one of the greatest gifts our economy — and our society — has ever known.  The FCC was chartered to promote competition, innovation, and investment in our networks.  In service of that mission, there is no higher calling than protecting an open, accessible, and free Internet.  I thank the Commissioners for having served this cause with distinction and integrity, and I respectfully ask them to adopt the policies I have outlined here, to preserve this technology’s promise for today, and future generations to come.

Factoid: During its first year Sesame Street was banned in Mississippi for its integrated cast. That did not stop the show from being a leader in media diversity. Kudos for teaching generations of children a lesson on acceptance.

English band Rivertairs releases 'Jack'

Longing for Liverpool?  English pop band, the Rivertairs will take you there.

English band Rivertairs are on a voyage of musical discovery, channeling influences from rock n’ roll through to psychedelia to create what they describe as "a soundscape of many colours".

Their musical odyssey began at Warth Mill in Saddleworth, Greater Manchester, where passion and persistence weaved together an exciting prospect. Having a variety of influences from The Kinks to Small Faces to The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger to Temples, the band found themselves on the same page writing songs containing vivacious vocals, whimsical guitar parts, punchy bass lines, shimmering keys, vintage beats and shaking tambourines. These writing sessions led to the creation of their first three-track demo, 2013's ‘Fool’s Parade’.
A number of gigs around the north followed, which included a support slot for nineties Liverpool band ‘Space’ and a show with the illustrious UK music promoters ‘This Feeling’, where the band gained praise from BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Chris Hawkins.
Early 2014 saw Rivertairs writing tirelessly to produce a catalogue of new music. 'Jack' is the first of these new songs to be released; a tongue in cheek vignette centred on the infamous Jack the Ripper.
Describing their new single, Rivertairs say 'Jack' is "a suspenseful sonance plucking the strings of imagination".
