Gordon D. Cannon, a Shreveport, LA man who allegedly  shot and killed Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley is in custody on a first degree murder charge after a day-long manhunt.  Gordon was already wanted on an attempted second degree murder charge when he opened fire on the officer who was answering a suspicious person call in the Queensboro neighborhood Wednesday night. Police Chief Willie Shaw said the slain officer, a four year veteran of the force, was shot multiple times.

Cannon did not get very far, having been found in the same city where he committed the crime less than 24-hours before.

The incident follows a wave of racially sensitive officer involved shootings and incident sof policec brutality around the country, wherein the police tend to be White and victims Black.  In this case the tables were turned.  Cannon, 27 is Black.   LaValley, 24 is White.   It was the second officer involved shooting in a week where the shooter was Black, the victim White.   Previously, in Memphis, TN Tremaine Wilbourn, 29, was charged with first-degree murder of officer Sean Bolton, 33.
