Federal judge releases Kim Davis from jail

buzzz worthy. . .

The same judge who sent Kentucky clerk Kim Davis to jail for contempt of court ordered her release today. Davis was jailed for refusal to issue marriage licenses to gay couples citing religious reasons. An appeal she submitted to have her signature removed from licenses was denied. The clerk position is an elected office in Rowan Country, KY.

Davis returned to work on Monday, September 14 spouting the same non-compliant attitude that got her arrested. The judge stipulated that Davis  could not interfere with other staff members issuing marriage licenses. Davis insists that marriage licenses that are being handled by her staff are invalid, while Kentucky state governor and the state's attorney general say they are valid. She could end up back in jail if she does not abide by the judges orders.

Davis is being upheld as a martyr by many Christians who have rallied behind her since  two men released a video showing she did not cooperate with their request for a marriage license.  Upon being released, she wept as the crowd waiting outside the jail greeted her, giving praise to God for her release: She said, "Thank you all so much. I love you all so very much. I just want to give God the glory. His people have rallied, and you are a strong people. We serve a living God who knows exactly where each and every one of us is at. Just keep on pressing. Don't let down, because he is here. He's worthy."

Some Republican presidential hopefuls also support Davis.

Mike Huckabee was by the clerk's side when she was freed from prison and has been a supporter through the 5-day ordeal.  Last week he argued Davis' imprisonment, comparing it to the Dred Scott slavery case a Supreme Court ruling .  Questioned the former Arkansas governor, a minister,  "Is slavery the law of the land? Should it have been the law of the land because Dred Scott said so? Was that a correct decision? Should the courts have been irrevocably followed on that? Should Lincoln have been put in jail? Because he ignored it."

Republican Candidate Rick Santorum is also bucking the system
