Dr.Jill Biden talks to Vogue Korea!

buzzz worthy. . .

The Second Lady Who Takes Action: Jill Biden
July 16, 2015

Even after Jill Biden became the Second Lady, she did not leave the field of education.  She takes matters into her own hands to better the lives of women based on her own experiences as a working mom.  The message she wanted to convey to Vogue Korea was “the power of education.
Q. This is the first time a Second Lady from the U.S. has visited the Republic of Korea. We are very curious about the reasons for your visit. Is there a special purpose or goal for your visit?

Dr. Jill Biden: The United States and Republic of Korea have a very close and strong relationship.  The purpose of my visit is to build upon our joint efforts to expand economic opportunities for women in Asia and to give girls around the world an equal shot in the classroom.  Women and girls in Republic of Korea have made tremendous strides over the past few decades, but I know they still encounter many difficulties, just as women do in many countries, including the United States.  When women are unable to fully participate in the workforce, it impacts not only their lives, but their families, their communities, and the economy.  During my visit I hope to follow up with the participants from the Republic of Korea who attended the White House Summit on Working Families, learn more about how women and girls contribute to their country, and discuss more ways that we can improve quality education for girls and economic opportunities for women.

Q. What part of the Republic of Korea are you aware of or interested in (both personally, and officially)? Have you ever visited the Republic of Korea before?

Dr. Jill Biden: This is my first time traveling to the Republic of Korea, but my husband Joe, the Vice President, has visited previously.  During my time in Republic of Korea, I am interested in learning more about the progress women in the Republic of Korea have made on the issues of girls’ education and women’s empowerment.  Young women and girls in Republic of Korea excel in terms of educational achievements, but continue to face many challenges in the workplace.  I hope to hear about the initiatives the Republic of Korean government has pursued to even the playing field for women in the workplace and to meet with the women who have experienced first-hand the benefits of these initiatives.

Q. Your schedule for the visit has been kept completely confidential to date. What do you plan on doing during your visit? Where will you visit and who will you meet with?

Dr. Jill Biden: I am a lifelong educator and whenever I travel, I try to visit schools and meet with teachers and students.  I feel most at home whenever I am in a classroom.  On this trip, I want to hear first-hand from girls about their experiences in their countries education system.  I also look forward to talking with working moms, students, women entrepreneurs and lawmakers to discuss the ways in which we can work together to make sure girls and women have the tools they need to realize their full potential.

Q. We heard that you will be visiting the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, and Laos, together with Catherine Russell, who is currently serving as an Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues. How are lives of Asian women different from those of American women?

Dr. Jill Biden: Every country has its own unique challenges, but what strikes me is not the differences between Asian and American women, but our shared interest in solving long-term problems that we face.  No country has achieved gender equality, not the Republic of Korea, not the United States, and not any of the other countries we’re visiting.  Women all around the world face gender-based discrimination.  They face stereotypes and bias, and they’re underrepresented in politics and government.

We have so much to gain by valuing women and girls—from boosting our economies to improving health and education for our children.  But we have a long way to go.  While women have long led the charge for gender equality, we also realize that we can’t do this alone.  Governments, the private sector, civil society, religious leaders, and entire communities are coming together to invest in women and girls.  If we can keep the momentum going and continue to empower women and girls, I think we’ll see powerful results.

Q. Have you ever experienced concerns similar to those experienced by working women?

Dr. Jill Biden: As a working mother and grandmother, I know first-hand the dedication and sacrifice required of women in the workforce.  When I went back to school for my master’s degree, I continued to teach full-time while raising our three children.  I remember so clearly the hour-long drives each way to and from school—time that I didn’t get to spend with my family.  Even though it took me 15 years to earn two master’s degrees and eventually my doctorate, I kept at it because I knew that education and teaching was my passion and life’s work.

From day one, the Obama-Biden Administration has worked to empower women in the workforce.  From supporting women-owned businesses in the United States to demanding equal pay for equal work; from creating the White House Council on Women and Girls to appointing a strong team of women leaders on White House staff, the Administration has taken steps to ensure that women are involved in shaping every level of our government and that their voices are heard throughout society and all around the world.

Q. You have served as a professor for a long time. Are you still teaching students? Your experience as a Professor does not seem to be related to politics. Did such experience help you in any way with your role as Second Lady?

Dr. Jill Biden: I cannot imagine not teaching.  I have taught for over 30 years, and I continue to teach English as a full-time professor at a community college in just outside of Washington, DC.  When President Obama and my husband were first elected to the White House in 2008, I told Joe that I wanted to continue teaching.  One week after inauguration, I was back in the classroom because teaching is not what I do, it is who I am.

As an educator, I am proud to be part of a White House that is committed to investing in our students, and restoring the promise of America’s education system.  In 2010, I hosted the first-ever White House Summit on Community Colleges with President Obama.  I have traveled across the country visiting over 60 colleges to see firsthand the extraordinary work being done to make transformative change on their campuses to help improve outcomes for their students.  And, as Second Lady, I have the opportunity to visit countries around the world, like the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, and Laos, to meet with students, teachers, parents and leaders to learn more about how education is helping them build a better life for themselves, their families and their communities.

Q. What is important to you?

Dr. Jill Biden: Education.  I love being in the classroom and helping my students.  When I teach, my goal is to help them find the confidence in themselves to overcome challenges large and small, because I know that one’s confidence can make all the difference in the world.  Those who are determined to get their education will almost always build a better life for themselves and their families.

In the United States, we are a people who value the strength and diversity of our nation.  We value the dignity and worth of every citizen, and work to ensure that anyone who wants an education can get one.  Unfortunately today, 62 million girls around the world are not in school.  That’s why earlier this year, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama launched Let Girls Learn—a whole of government initiative between State, USAID, Peace Corps and MCC to support adolescent girls education worldwide. Peace Corps Volunteers will be focused on community-led solutions to open doors of education for girls around the world.  It is in this spirit that we always stand ready to help others, whether down the street or on the other side of the world.

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT ON SHOOTING IN CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE

buzzz worthy. . .

"I just received a briefing from FBI Director Comey, as well as my White House team, about the tragic shooting that took place in Chattanooga today.  We don't know yet all the details.  We know that what appears to be a lone gunman carried out these attacks.  We’ve identified a name.  And at this point, a full investigation is taking place.  The FBI will be in the lead, working closely with local law enforcement.
We’ve also been in contact with the Department of Defense to make sure that all our Defense facilities are properly attentive and vigilant as we sort through exactly what happened.  And as details of the investigation proceed, we’ll make sure that the FBI, as well as local law enforcement are providing the public with all the information that's involved.
My main message right now is, obviously, the deepest sympathies of the American people to the four Marines that have been killed.  It is a heartbreaking circumstance for these individuals who have served our country with great valor to be killed in this fashion.
And although the families are still in the process of being contacted, I want them to know that I speak for the American people in expressing our deepest condolences, and knowing that they have our full support as they try to overcome the grief that's involved here.
I also want to say that there are reports of injuries to Chattanooga local law enforcement officials.  Thankfully, as far as we know at this point, they have survived the assault.  And we want to make sure that they know that we're thinking of them.  They're in our thoughts and prayers.
We take all shootings very seriously.  Obviously, when you have an attack on a U.S. military facility, then we have to make sure that we have all the information necessary to make an assessment in terms of how this attack took place, and what further precautions we can take in the future.  And as we have more information, we’ll let the public know.
But in the meantime, I’d ask all Americans to pray for the families who are grief-stricken at this point.  And I want everybody to understand that we will be thorough and prompt in figuring out exactly what happened."

Comedian Michelle Collins is The View's lastest co-host hire

buzzz worthy. . .

The ABC Network’s struggling talker “The View” continues to play a game of host scrabble.  Rosie Perez recently left after one year to return to acting, shortly after Raven Simone was hired permanently.   Now "The View" has has  hired  yet another regular, comedian and writer Michelle Collins. Worshipper Bridgette Kearn signs with Dream Gospel

buzzz worthy. . .

Los Angeles - CA (July, 2015) -- DREAM GOSPEL and DREAM WORSHIP are excited to announce the signing of worship leader BRIDGETT KERN to the growing roster. Bridgett Kern is a multi-faceted Worship Leader, Songwriter and Pastor from Phoenix, AZ who is now taking her music ministry global with her new worship album NO ONE GREATER.
Bridgett called upon a league of extraordinary musicians and songsmiths to contribute to NO ONE GREATER.  Worship and Contemporary Christian songwriters BJ Putnam, Melody Putnam, Doug and Laurie Engquist, Lucia Parker, Adam Ranney, Riley Engquist, Josh Lopez and Freddie Rodriguez have poured their songwriting prowess into the album.  BJ Putnam takes the helm at producing the project while musician and producer Buddy Strong (Usher, Marvin Sapp, Coko/SWV, Alvin Slaughter) takes reign as music director. Bridget sought friends Henry Seeley from Planet Shakers for lead guitar and Aaron Spears for drum-work.
The demanding but rewarding call to a life of ministry is fulfilling and requires a compassionate sacrifice of self and time. Bridgett and her husband Dr. Joseph Kern balance their family of four children, pastoring a congregation and serving their community by “building a stronger generation next”.  “As a minister and pastor, we are servants and I love serving others,” she shares.   “People have been my greatest gift and God has surrounded me with an incredible group of people so I don’t have to do it all, in turn, I can give others wings and let them fly!”
“I also have a very unique perspective of worship now,” says Bridgett. “As a worship leader, my heart and desire is to be relevant to the needs of the people, and give to them, through music, encouragement that will help them get through their week,” she continues.  “I never assume that the people that walk into Radiant Life Church already have a relationship with God or, for that matter, even know what we are doing when we are lifting our hands. I instruct them so that they really get it!”
Her songs are sincere messages about who God is and what He can do. “My deepest passion and sole purpose is to set an atmosphere where people are focused on God,” Bridgett proclaims. “The songs I sing are always directed to The King, Our Lord, and I want people to understand that our worship is a lifestyle that reflects Gods influence.”
Her first single from the album, "He Shall Reign" is the epitome of an affirmative anthem of praise.

ELEVEN22 WORSHIP to release Before All Things September 4

buzzz worthy. . .

Before All Things is in a series of worship albums and experiences focused on creating music that speaks the language of the local community.

Jacksonville, FL - Eleven22 Worship, a musician community dedicated to creating worship songs that reflect the culture surrounding The Church of Eleven22, is releasing their third full-length album Before All Things, September 4. The new project reflects the growth of a movement of authentic faith as well as the creative outpouring of a community seeking to experience corporate worship in a new way.

Led by Worship Pastor Ben Williams, Eleven22 Worship is a collective of professional musicians, talented vocalists and lay-leaders who are driven to create songs of worship that are theologically sound, while being accessible to their audiences various musical leanings.  As on their acclaimed previous releases, Fall On Your Altar and The Reason, Before All Things is full of songs and sounds that are innovative and fresh, unable to be locked into just one genre or category.  With Before All Things, the Eleven22 Worship community took recording a step further, creating a unique collection of ten original songs penned by their internal church worship community.

Before All Things features vocalists Jonathan Berlin, Maria Berlin, Ben Harrell, Madeline Hill, Gretchen Martin and Ben Williams.  Jonathan Berlin (JohnnySwim, Jesus Culture, Kari Jobe), who also produced the project, was committed to the album being a reflection of the team at large, and not just focusing on certain members. “This album was a collaborative effort, where everyone in the Eleven22 Worship community was able to be a part of the process,” explains Ben. “Even with the large number of artists, we all worked seamlessly together while creating the album, and I believe we have a very distinct sound, not only stylistically, but because of sheer number of people who are a part of this collaborative effort.  I think people are going to be very surprised how well-balanced a team worship album can be, both lyrically and sonically.”

Based in a converted Walmart in Jacksonville, FL, Pastor Joby Martin launched The Church of Eleven22 as a non-denominational congregation dedicated to glorifying God by surrendering to Jesus, making disciple-making disciples and transforming communities.  Focused on serving the “unreachable” demographic in their local community that was underserved by the church, The Church of Eleven22 began as an intentionally intergenerational ministry with a vision to be “A movement for ALL people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Since its official launch three years ago, the congregation has expanded to five services hosting an average weekly attendance of 6000. Still committed to impacting their local beach culture, The Church of Eleven22 has attracted a group of musicians who are dedicated to creating music that speaks the language of the audience.

Ben continues, “Some of the songs are really going to connect with listeners because lyrically and sonically it speaks their language. We hope Before All Things will give people a vehicle to experience all of God in a fresh, new way.”
