BET is in production on its first scripted music-focused television movie featuring iconic 90's boy group New Edition.  The original miniseries is being produced in partnership with Jesse Collins Entertainment.  New Edition members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant have all signed on as co-producers for the film that is being developed into a three-night miniseries premiering on BET in 2016.

“It's been a long time coming and that time is finally here! Now that we have signed the deal, New Edition's journey will be captured in a three night miniseries to tell our life story through our very own eyes. We are happy to have New Edition Enterprises collaborate with BET Networks’ Debra Lee and Stephen Hill along with Jesse Collins Entertainment.  From our beginning in the Orchard Park Projects in Boston to Hollywood and everything in between, just like The Temptations and The Jackson Five—we are ready to retrace our footsteps and show everyone how we got here. For the fans all over the world, this one's for you,” says New Edition.

“Personally, my relationship with New Edition goes back to being among the first to play ‘Candy Girl’ on my college radio station, so I’m ecstatic that BET is the place where the guys wanted to come to tell their complete, dynamic story,” said Stephen Hill, President of Programming, BET Networks.  “Everyone’s been waiting for the New Edition saga to be told in all its triumphs and heartbreaks and we can’t wait to bring it to the screen.”

Jesse Collins (Real Husbands of Hollywood) is executive producer. “New Edition’s music is woven into the fabric of our culture.  When I brought the idea to BET years ago, I wanted to create a film that would tell the story of how New Edition emerged into one of the most important groups of its generation.  I am so grateful that Stephen Hill and his team are giving Jesse Collins Entertainment the opportunity to chronicle the lives of these music icons,” says Collins.

New Edition’s longtime manager Brooke Payne will also serve as a co-producer.  With a script by Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket), the untitled film is slated to begin shooting in early 2016.  A director has not yet been selected.

Jesse Collins is represented by ICM Partners, Niles Kirchner Management and Bloom, Hergott, Diemer & Rosenthal.  Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant are repped by ICM Partners and Gordon Bobb at Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein & Lezcano.  Abdul Williams is represented by UTA, Bonnie Berry LaMon at B2L Entertainment Law Group and Brad Kaplan at Primary Wave.

Ken Francis inks "Buckwild" You Tube Deal with Fullscreen, Inc.

buzzz worthy. . .

Recently Released from the Feds
Former Playboy TV Producer
Ken Francis
Inks "Buckwild" YouTube Deal
with Fullscreen, Inc.

Los Angeles - Former Playboy TV producer Ken Francis III has signed a deal with Fullscreen, Inc., one of the largest YouTube multi-channel network operators. Fullscreen, Inc., will promote and monetize Francis' YouTube channel, "The Buckwild Show," an archive of exclusive behind-the-scene footage Francis has secured filming, interviewing and documenting the biggest names in hip hop over the past two decades, including Snoop Dogg, Run DMC, Black Eyed Peas, Pharrell, Bobby Brown, and Outkast. Francis' channel will feature classic episodes of "The Buckwild Show" as well as his new show, "In The Lab." The signing marks a milestone feat for Francis who was just released from Federal prison less than a year ago.

An original and groundbreaking hip hop music video show, "The Buckwild Show" presents top name artists with sexy models. The series originally aired on Playboy TV in 2005 and has now been revamped for YouTube programming.

Francis' other show, "In The Lab," goes behind the scenes of music productions, featuring footage of studio sessions with various top recording artists. The show also showcases the home studios of famous as well as up-coming artists. There is a "Check The Technique" segment where music producers reveal some of their recording tips and Francis' vintage footage of various celebrities in the studio is highlighted in the "Classic Clips" segment of the show.

"The Buckwild Show" channel will also incorporate current celebrity hip hop news into Francis' funny "Qwik Clips," a 'talking heads' spoof on topical subjects and current events like the Drake vs. Meek Mill rap battle. There is exclusive archival footage of various artists like Kim Kardashian and Ray J, Quincy Jones, Jamie Foxx, Paris Hilton, Russell Crowe, Justin Timberlake and more. Additional content also includes history making footage such as the attack on Dr. Dre at the Vibe Awards and other memorable music events.

Francis' personal adventure in the hip hop industry is urban legend status. The television and video producer once captured and documented Hollywood's most intimate hip hop scenes with his lens. A pioneer underground video veteran, Francis' early productions included the now cult classics "Buckwild Beach Week," "Buckwild in Brazil," and "Buckwild 2001." These DVD productions were the first to showcase the beauty of women of color back when the popular "Girl's Gone Wild" series was ignoring them.

It was also Francis who introduced hip hop programming to Playboy TV with his original series "Buckwild." The shows highlighted uncensored videos and interviews from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Lil' Jon and the Eastside Boys, the Ying Yang Twins, Jadakiss, Loon and Treach from Naughty by Nature. Real hip hop heads still own the Playboy TV DVD classic "Snoop Dogg's Buckwild Bus Tour" a project directed and produced by Francis.

A 20-year entertainment industry veteran who worked his way up from an ambitious intern at Polygram Records to owning and operating the hip-hop industry's most sought-after video vixen modeling agency, Dimepiece USA, Francis furnished countless models for the music videos of superstar artists like Jay Z, Usher, Eminem, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Nelly, Missy Elliot and many others. It was the operation of Dimepiece USA which saw his eventual demise however when he was convicted for the agency's involvement in an international drug smuggling ring. Francis maintains his innocence to this day.

"My ordeal with the Feds and subsequent imprisonment was a very humbling experience after having such broad access to Hollywood's elite hip hop community," reveals Francis. "I believe the journey has enlightened me and given me the answers to some of life's hidden secrets.  I have literally sat in a prison cell and dreamt of days like this."

"While incarcerated, I spent much of my time writing my memoirs and reading tech and business magazines. Once I realized the Internet was taking over the industry and moving toward original content, I knew I was sitting on a vast catalog of prized footage. I am more than thankful to be aligned with Full Screen, the number one content provider in the marketplace. Securing this deal with them is a huge affirmation for me and a tremendous boost as I work to secure and position myself again."

New episodes of "The Buckwild Show" air every Tuesday on YouTube and new airings of "In The Lab" premiere every Thursday.

Former Ferguson insider blows the whistle on racism in new book

buzzz worthy. . .
Ferguson, MO - Despite angry protests and national outcry after the police killing of unarmed Michael Brown, Jr., a year ago Aug. 9, the police shootings of Black citizens and ensuing uprisings continue to occur across the country. Diversity expert and author, Devin S. James, warns the tragedies and conflict will continue until government leaders make a real commitment to cultural sensitivity training, diversity recruiting, and accountability. In his new memoir, Inside Ferguson: A Voice for the Voiceless, James offers readers a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges he experienced while working with Ferguson city officials and  leaders resistant to change.

When protests turned violent after Michael Brown was killed, St. Louis County leaders called upon James to help bridge the gap between Ferguson's all-white leadership and its outraged Black community. They thought his background made him the perfect for the task. James has firsthand experience of the ambiguity of the criminal justice system, making him a very unlikely success story.  An abused child, high school drop out, victim of gun violence and former gang member, his transformation as an astute, educated communications professional speaks volumes about his intellect, character and integrity. Inside Ferguson is James' chilling account of the hypocrisies of Ferguson's leadership and the consequences he suffered when he tried to do his job and dared to become a voice for the voiceless.

"The mentalities displayed by leadership in Missouri demonstrate how devalued Black people are in America," states James, whose expertise includes crisis management and community engagement. "The leaders pretend to be concerned about the issues impacting the black community however, they refuse to listen to the needs of the community or make any significant changes. Rather than acknowledge systemic racism exists and try to understand why residents were offended by their actions, the leaders often defended their actions and denied any wrongdoing," adds the CEO of The Devin James Group.

Inside Ferguson explores the City Council's inability to address any real issues, and the subsequent character assassination that occurred when James refused to play along and pushed for real change.  The book details shocking, yet insightful, conversations based on memories, experiences, e-mails, text messages, audio recordings and transcriptions of events as they unfolded according to James.

Despite the tragedies and challenges evident during his time in Ferguson, James still remains hopeful about what can be done: "Ultimately, it's my hope that my book can help put the focus back on what really matters: why racial inequality and discrimination is still a major crisis in America today. In the wake of Ferguson and similar tragedies occurring nationally, government officials across the country must examine the racist laws and policies that foster an environment in which the killing of Black men and women is acceptable."

Inside Ferguson: A Voice for the Voiceless is an explosive missile of truth from a man uniquely positioned to uncover the real mechanics of damage control and race relations.  The insider game he reveals is gut wrenching as he exposes the Black community as pawns in a war that rages deeper than the death of one victim. James's account will make you question the progress America has made in the quest for racial equality and reflect upon the true meaning of "Black Lives Matter."

Inside Ferguson: A Voice for the Voiceless will be available Friday, August 14th, 2015 at www.amazon.com  and www.barnesandnoble.com. Please visit www.insideferguson.com and connect with Devin S. James on www.facebook.com/insideferguson, Twitter: @Devin_S_James, and Instagram: @devinsjames.

Home > Politics Clinton Records: Judge Sets Schedule for Release to AP

buzzz worthy. . .

Impatient with years of delays, a federal judge on Friday gave the State Department some tight deadlines to provide The Associated Press with thousands of pages of documents related to Hillary Rodham Clinton — a timetable that means many of the files should be released well before the U.S. presidential primary elections.

Friday's order came one week after U.S. District Judge Richard Leon chastised the department for its slowness in satisfying years-old records requests, including for Clinton's schedules and calendars.
The AP sued in March after the department failed to turn over files requested under the Freedom of Information Act, including one request made more than five years ago.

Since then, the State Department has said it struggled to meet the AP's demand on time because of limited staff resources and thousands of other pending requests. But at a hearing last month, Leon appeared troubled that the document requests had gone unsatisfied and said at least part of what the AP wanted could be processed with ease by "the least ambitious bureaucrat."

State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the department was aware of the judge's order but wouldn't comment further on a pending lawsuit.

It was not immediately clear whether the State Department will comply with the judge's order or ask an appeals court to give it more time, though the judge said the agency must alert him if it feels that it cannot meet any part of the deadline.

"We are very pleased Judge Leon set a tight production schedule for review and release of these public documents," AP's general counsel Karen Kaiser said in a statement. "We remain committed to the goal of getting this important information released to the public as quickly as possible."
Under the new schedule, the State Department will have 30 days to produce roughly 68 pages of documents related to Clinton's former top aide, Huma Abedin. The State Department last week in writing asked Abedin's lawyers to preserve and return to the government any federal records that Abedin might have in her possession.

Within 90 days, the judge said, the department must turn over nearly 5,000 pages of calendars and schedules from Clinton's four years as secretary of state.

In addition, the State Department will have eight months to produce 13,387 pages of materials concerning its oversight of military contractor BAE Systems during the years Clinton served as secretary of state.

The British firm settled with the Justice Department in February 2010 to end a long-running investigation into its overseas contracts and later agreed to pay a $79 million fine to the State Department and submit to auditing and oversight. So far, after more than two years, the State Department had turned over seven pages to the AP on the subject.

The AP submitted its FOIA request targeting records from Clinton and a number of her top aides in July 2013. The State Department denied fast processing of the request and later missed a promised target date for completing its searches.

The scheduling order does not include the 55,000 pages of Clinton emails that the State Department is already in the process of releasing in a separate case. It also does not take into account documents contained in 20 boxes that were recently given to the State Department by Philippe Reines, a former Clinton senior adviser.

Hands on artist: Tyrese points out double standard in ariplay for Black R&B artists

buzzz worthy. . .

TYRESE ASKS:  “I’m simply asking the question: If Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke and Sam Smith are singing R&B/soul music, how is it possible that they’re being played by Top 40, rhythmic and urban AC stations? Yet when we sing R&B/soul, it’s only being played on black radio?”

Tyrese Gibson

Tyrese Gibson, who has the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, has a lot to say about what seems to be racism and double standards in the music industry. His latest album, Black Rose, has sold more copies than any other album this week, but yet it’s mostly being played on radio stations listened to by African Americans.

“I’m not a racist, I’m not using the race card and I’m not trying to create any type of negative energy toward (radio hosts) Ryan Seacrest or Elvis Duran specifically,” he says. “I’m simply asking the question: If Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke and Sam Smith are singing R&B/soul music, how is it possible that they’re being played by Top 40, rhythmic and urban AC stations? Yet when we sing R&B/soul, it’s only being played on black radio?”

“I don’t have a problem with any of these artists, or the fact that they’re white and singing R&B/soul,” Gibson continues. But “are you telling me that if Robin Thicke sang Shame featuring Jennifer Hudson, they would be playing it? We can’t play that game. If I would’ve sung Sam Smith’s version of (Stay With Me) that has a full choir on the chorus, my song would’ve been played on urban AC radio and that’s it. It wouldn’t have went any further than that.”
He adds, “It’s not fair, it’s not right and I’m not having it.”

Meanwhile, at least one station director from KIIS, which airs On Air with Ryan Seacrest, fired back saying: “Pop radio pulls from all genres… You can hear hip-hop and R&B artists like Wiz Khalifa, Omarion, The Weeknd, Fetty Wap and Silento, in addition to Nicki Minaj, John Legend and many more, on KIIS currently. We will continue to consider all artists for airplay.”

But Tyrese does seem to have a point. It doesn’t seem fair that he has the number one selling album in the country, and is not getting airplay on mainstream radio.

Tyrese, who started out doing commercials for Coca-Cola, has had several hit songs, but is mostly known for his chart toppers “Sweet Lady” in 1999 and “How You Gonna Act Like That?” in 2003. He has also starred in several films including Baby Boy and the Fast and Furious franchise. Black Rose is his sixth studio album, and he says it is also his last solo album. Next year, he will host a relationship talk show on OWN with Rev Run called “Manology”, and will also star in another another Fast and Furious film to be released in 2017.

JMC kicked off their U.S. Southern Tour in Kings Mountain, NC, which is Jett Edwards, TJMC producer’s hometown. Edwards received the “Key To City” by Mayor Rick Murphrey, followed by many performances throughout the state.

The producer, Jett Edwards and co-producer Jenna are making history, as this is the first time in the history of Japan or Asia, that a record and producing team has manage to produce a thousand-voice choir record release and U.S. Tour.

Edwards, CEO, a Tokyo based producer and Gospel Artist has worked with the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi & Alabama, Janet Jackson, George Benson, among others.  Edwards has partnered with Japanese Gospel entrepreneurJenna, who runs the largest Gospel music school franchise in Japan with approximately 2000 members nationwide.

“I started my Gospel Music journey here in Japan using music to encourage people who were impacted by the 2011 Tsunami,” says Edwards, “and through our charity Believers Today, we would visit the devastated areas like Tohoku Ishinomaki and encourage them with songs.”

Powerful explains the message taken from 1Corinthians 1:12 and the rich cutting edge sound of the music. Feel like you need a little Power in your life, here's where you get it.
