Christian gays tell their own stories in BET's grondbreaking doc "Holler If You Hear Me"

buzzz worthy. . .Use #HollerBET to join the conversation online

The emotional doc about homophobia in the church is created and produced
by BET.com's Clay Cane

On Nov. 2, BET Networks  announced the launch of its emotional original documentary “HOLLER IF YOU HEAR ME: BLACK AND GAY IN THE CHURCH” exclusively on the BET NOW App Monday, November 2. With marriage equality, LGBT Pride and the "Transgender Tipping Point," there has been progress for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, but some religious institutions sadly fall far behind when it comes to accepting and embracing LGBT people. For the first time on film, BET.com and journalist Clay Cane explore homophobia in the black church and put the narrative in the hands of black LGBT people who are torn between their faith and the way they are treated by their church – the stories are varied, passionate and inspiring.

“BET Networks has always prided itself on being at the fore front of the issues that matter most to the African American community.” said Kay Madati Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer, BET Networks “With the addition of this gripping documentary on BET.com we look forward to spark dialogue on LGBT issues in the black community and continue to be the premiere platform for our audience to see their stories told authentically.”

In the one-hour documentary Cane travels to Atlanta, Georgia, where church and LGBT culture cross paths like nowhere else, to dive into one of the most taboo topics in the African American community from young people such as Hannah a 24-year-old living in a homeless shelter after being thrown out of her house for being a lesbian to Bishop Allen who leads the most famous LGBT church in the country, Vision Church of Atlanta, with his husband First Gentleman Rashad. “HOLLER IF YOU HEAR ME: BLACK AND GAY IN THE CHURCH” tackles this controversial but important issue through the journeys of those who are living it every day and whose stories deserve to be heard.

Sir White House Chef releases autobiography

buzzz worthy. . .

(Washington, D.C.) -- For more than three decades, Sir Ronnie Seaton served as Master Executive Chef of the White House in Washington, D.C. In his new autobiography Sir White House Chef (Heritage Builders Publishing, ISBN# 978-1-941437-93-3, $24.95, November 2015), Sir Ronnie shares his favorite experiences serving five U.S. Presidents - from Reagan to Obama.

His anecdotes are humorous, surreal and sometimes tragic. This is not a typical White House Chef cookbook. Readers will learn of the love and respect he had for the Presidents and their wives even though at times it was not reciprocated. Sir Ronnie explains in detail how much influence and power food has over important meetings from Heads of State around the world, and the United States is number one for serving top shelf dinners while our leaders are negotiating agreements that change our lives. The White House Chef also spins yarns about the world leaders who graced the White House tables. He describes the stress and triumphs of satisfying the tastes of the most powerful people in the world. The book also contains recipes of the Presidents favorite dinners.

Sir Ronnie is one of only two chefs ever knighted by Queen Elizabeth, and the only American chef to receive this honor. The story of the Queen making Master Chef Ronnie Seaton a Knight is worth the price of this book.

Master Chef Sir Ronnie Seaton Sr. served for 34 years as White House Chef. During his tenure running the White House kitchen, he served five U.S. Presidents, starting with Reagan, then Bush, Clinton, and Bush (W), before recently retiring under the administration of President Obama. Master Chef Seaton is a United States Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam, where he served time as a P.O.W. After eight years of military service, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. During his internship with the New Orleans Convention Center, he was selected to prepare a meal for President Ronald Reagan; at the conclusion of the meal President Reagan offered him a position, starting his career as the White House Chef. Master Chef Seaton lives in New Orleans with his wife of 41 years. They have been blessed with eight children, seven boys and one girl.

Giovanni Gambino and Richard Pryor, Jr. team up for 'Guilty by Color' book on police brutality

buzzz worthy. . .

Guilty By Color" Brings Together Diverse Talents, Proves Hollywood Love Affair With Mafia Continues

Giovanni Gambino and Richard Pryor, Jr. collaborate on timely, hard-hitting tale of racism and police injustice
NEW YORK, Nov. 5, 2015  -- Author Giovanni Gambino, together with Richard Pryor, Jr., have penned an emotional page-turner of a story that is as relevant today as it's ever been. "Guilty By Color" examines the effects that institutional prejudice can have on individuals, a phenomenon that the late comedian Richard Pryor experienced firsthand. "Guilty By Color" is available at Barnes & Noble and available today on Amazon.

"Giovanni Gambino is the real deal. He's not just a Gambino. He is The Gambino," says long-time friend and associate Joseph David Savoy.

Incidents of police brutality make headlines today, thanks in part to social media, but they're nothing new for many people in underprivileged communities. Richard Pryor witnessed racial prejudice his entire life, and he weaved this sad reality into some of his best-known bits. His son carries on that tradition in the medium of fiction. Pryor, Jr.'s collaboration with Gambino brings together a stand-up comedy empire and one of the nation's most infamous crime families – all for a powerful and important cause.

"Guilty By Color" follows the plight of an African American farmer falsely accused of the murder of a white woman. Set in Mississippi in 1982, the region has yet to recover from the upheaval of the civil rights era. The trial draws national attention, and many believe a guilty verdict is inevitable. "Guilty By Color" is successful as both a courtroom procedural drama and a penetrating look at how simmering racial prejudice can lead to the worst sorts of injustice.
The late Richard Pryor's story will soon be retold in the form of a major motion picture. The Weinstein Company plans to start production in March 2016. A bevy of A-list actors has already been tapped for the feature. Mike Epps earned the role of Pryor, while Kate Hudson will play his widow, Jennifer Lee Pryor. Oprah Winfrey will play Pryor's grandmother, who raised the comic in the brothel she operated. Eddie Murphy rounds out the cast as Leroy "Buck" Pryor, Richard's father.
With "Guilty By Color," Gambino and Pryor, Jr. hope to keep part of Richard Pryor's legacy alive – namely, his insightful and provocative window into how people of color often remain marginalized, despite civil rights legislation.

Gospel Artist Gerald Scott Declares “Any Day Now” With Billboard Top 30 Worship Anthem

buzzz worthy. . .

(Washington, DC) - Many believers are waiting with bated breath on the promises of God to come to pass.  “Any Day Now”, the new hit song from Gospel Recording Artist Gerald Scott, is giving them a new anthem of hope.  The memorable track about blessed expectation is being sung in churches across the nation.  Its popularity caught the attention of radio programmers as well and the song recently shot up the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs Chart, where it’s been sitting in the Top 30 for a number of weeks now; so far, the track has peaked at #18.  Considering the impressive talents and expertise of the psalmist and worship leader, it’s no surprise that Gerald Scott has a hit on his hands.  A noted songwriter and new staff member of the mega-church Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, MD, under the musical leadership of award-winning recording artist and choir master Ricky Dillard, Gerald has had success with other songs including “Glad About It”, which was covered by Zacardi Cortez and The Walls Group.  The success of “Any Day Now” is just the tip of the iceberg for this anointed artist.
A clever mix of contemporary Christian music and passionate praise and worship, “Any Day Now” was created in an atmosphere of worship.  “I was thinking about the concept of the song for a while, but had never sat down to write it,” says Gerald.  “One day I was at a concert and the song just came.  I just started singing it – with my band members and singers wondering what was happening.  But it just flowed.  I taught it to the audience at the same time and we ended up singing it for about 15 minutes.  My singers and musicians loved the song, too, and encouraged me to record it.  Just a couple of days later, we were in the studio recording the song,” Gerald explains.  The track is the first single from the upcoming CD, Next Level, scheduled to release in early 2016.  Right on the heels of the success of “Any Day Now”, soon he will be dropping a brand new single, “Jesus On My Side”, another song from the pen of Gerald Scott.
From the very beginning, Gerald was surrounded by Gospel music.  With a grandfather who was a Baptist pastor and grandmother who was a minister of music, church and music were a daily part of Gerald’s life.  He performed his first solo at his home church at the age of 7, learning the drums, the bass, the keyboard and the organ while in high school.  It was in high school that he realized he had been called to music ministry.  During his time at Clark Atlanta University, he served as the musician for chapel services there.  Shortly after, he formed Gerald Scott & Co., an ensemble with a vision to help others grow spiritually and musically.  The gifted singing aggregation found success with songs from their 2007 debut, Intro, as well as their sophomore effort, Don’t Let Go.  Songs from both projects found their way to playlists on Gospel radio stations nationally and in the Washington, DC area, Gerald’s hometown.  Their third project, Incredible, was released in partnership with Habakkuk Records.  Since that time, the group has opened up for artists such as Tye Tribbett, Bishop Paul S. Morton, James Fortune & FIYA, Kierra Sheard, Anthony Brown & Group Therapy, Byron Cage, Kurt Carr, John P. Kee and Marvin Sapp.  As a background vocalist, Gerald has provided vocals for artists such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Kim Burrell, Daryl Coley and the late Ray Charles.
Gerald aspires to create great music.  He says, “It’s important to me to set a high musical standard.  At the same time, I want to provide a fresh musical perspective, conveying to listeners that even when they may feel that they’re at their lowest point, God is able to lift their heads and bring them through it all.  That’s the message I feel that God wants me to share with believers.” Connect with Gerald Scott on Facebook and Twitter (@GScottCo).
