LONDON, Jan. 8, 2016  -- #Netflix(Not Really)Everywhere is a major complaint for cord cutters in over 130 countries, but OverPlay™ SmartDNS has the solution. While only a handful of locations do not currently have Netflix™ access, original hit series such as Orange is the New Black and House of Cards are not available without an OverPlay account.

Netflix users in recently-added regions including Russia and India will experience even more restrictions, with only 722 and 740 respective titles available, compared to 5,748 in the U.S. and nearly 14,000 total offerings with OverPlay's SmartDNS & VPN services.
The announcement by Netflix at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was met with mixed reviews. Netflix is not currently offered to residents in China, Syria, and North Korea, a combined population of more than 1.35 billion, likely due to strict government censorship.

Natalie Cole's cause of death revealed

buzzz worthy. . .

A week after the New Year's Eve passing of R&B legend Natalie Cole, her family has revealed the cause of death.  Initial reports said the singer died of complications of various illnesses.  The 65-year-old daughter of the late Nat King Cole had been secretly fighting lung disease for years, while continuing to perform, following a kidney transplant in 2009.  Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension, which lead to heart failure was the cause of death her family confirmed Thursday in a statement:

"(Cole) responded well to pulmonary arterial hypertension-specific agents over many years, during which she performed many concerts world-wide, but eventually succumbed to intractable right heart failure, an outcome that unfortunately commonly occurs in this progressive disorder."

Jesse Jackson on gun control

America may now have more guns than people.

As President Barack Obama announces new executive action on gun control, U.S. gun manufacturing is a growth industry, almost doubling since the beginning of Obama Administration (5.6 million in 2009; 10.9 million in 2013). From 2001 to 2013, according to a Centers of Disease Control and Prevention report, 406,496 Americans were killed with firearms on U.S. soil. In contrast, the number of U.S. citizens killed by terrorists at home or abroad over the same years number 3,380. Chicago suffered a spike in gun homicides in 2015 with 470 homicides and 2,939 shooting victims, the worst of all U.S. cities.
Studies show a clear correlation: the more guns, the more homicides and the more people shot. Cities are racked by gun violence, yet gun ownership is much more prevalent in rural areas, as vividly displayed by the Bundy bunch that occupied an Oregon wildlife refuge over the weekend.

According to a General Social Survey report, gun ownership is declining. About 35 percent of adults were estimated to live in a household with a firearm in 2014, down from over half in the early 1980s. As hunting has declined in the country, so has gun ownership. Gun ownership is higher among whites than among blacks or Hispanics, higher among men than women. Gun ownership rises with income. It is higher among those earning more than $90,000 a year than among those earning less than $25,000. It is highest in the South Central U.S. and lowest in the Northeast and Pacific regions.

Now weapons designed for the purpose of mass killing in war are available for purchase at gun shows, online and at many gun stores. These weapons are powerful enough to stop trains or strafe planes that are landing or taking off. These are tools for terrorists, easily available for sale in America.

Obama has already delivered 15 national statements after shocking incidents of gun violence. Yet no national reforms have been passed — or even gotten much consideration. After the Charleston massacre, the Economist magazine compared mass shooting in the U.S. with the grotesque air pollution in China: a horrible health hazard which the country appears incapable of addressing.

Gun control doesn’t cost much. America has another abiding challenge — the explosive catastrophe of urban poverty — that also goes unmet. The City Observatory, an urban policy think tank in Portland, Ore., reports that the number of high-poverty urban neighborhoods in the nation’s 51 largest cities tripled — to 3,100 — between 1970 and 2010. The number of poor persons living in those areas doubled over those years. The poor are more isolated and concentrated than ever. African-Americans and Hispanics suffer the highest rates of poverty — and are the most isolated into separate and unequal neighborhoods. Twenty percent  of U.S. children lived in poverty by end of 2013; poverty among African-American children was nearly twice that (38 percent).

To deal with our impoverished neighborhoods, it isn’t enough to get rid of the guns. The public squalor of our inner cities has to be addressed: schools modernized, affordable housing built, mass transit supplied, available jobs created. Dealing with entrenched poverty costs real money, but less than we spend on the police, jails, drugs, alcoholism, and chronic illness — the dysfunction that comes from poverty.

Today’s politicians don’t want to spend political capital on guns or fiscal capital on poverty. They’d rather pay more on the back end from failing to act than risk the up-front political and economic costs of dealing with the problems. So the war on guns is lost; the war on poverty abandoned. And the hopes of millions are dashed by that failure. In the circus of the current presidential campaign, these are two fundamental challenges that ought to be at the center of our debate.

Critically Acclaimed Adam Stafford Returns with Long Awaited New Album

buzzz worthy. . .

Adam Stafford returns with his first album in nearly three years following the widely acclaimed Imaginary Walls Collapse in 2013.

Taser Revelations was recorded at The Happiness Hotel, Song by Toad's newly aquired warehouse recording space. Utilising the warehouse's natural room reverb to great effect, the album features producer and multi-instrumentalist Robbie Lesiuk performing a variety of instruments including steel drums, organ and piano. Greggor Douglas plays the Roland Juno/omnichord and ex-Maple Leaves Anna Miles provides harmony vocals.

Continuing Stafford's trajectory into electrified alternative pop, Taser Revelations begins with some of the most melodically catchy songs he has ever written, before taking a swerve down a dark alley midway through the album, venturing into industrial syncopation, samurai-guitar attacks and some unsettling, vivid imagery.

Nicholas Caldwell of legendary R&B group The Whispers dies

buzzz worthy. . .

Group member and  writer of The Whispers hits "Lady" and "Say Yes," Nicholas Caldwell died on Tuesday, January 5 of congestive heart failure in his native San Francisco.

Nick Caldwell, one of the founding members of the legendary R&B group The Whispers who are best known for their #1 R&B hits “Rock Steady” (1987) and “And The Beat Goes On” (1980), has died as a result of heart failure. He was 71.

"The Kingdom Records Family extends our heartfelt condolences to The Whispers and the family of Nicholas Caldwell in his passing,” says Joan Sullivan, CEO/President of Kingdom Records - the last recording home for The Whispers.  “We have so many fond memories of him.  It was a great opportunity and experience working with The Whispers on their last project.  One of the most memorable parts of working on the project was getting to know Nick and his creativity, warmth, and humbleness.  For us, it was truly a genuine experience.”

Mr. Caldwell was born April 5, 1944 in Loma Linda, CA. His first industry gig was working with Sly Stone who was a San Francisco area disc jockey prior to launching his band Sly & the Family Stone. Later on, he formed The Whispers with his high school buddies - twin brothers Walter & Wallace “Scotty” Scott. They added Marcus Hutson and Gordy Harmon (replaced by Leaveil Degree in 1973) and they initially patterned the group after The Four Freshmen pop group but eventually developed an R&B style.

The Whispers (Nick Caldwell, far left)

The group first recorded “It Only Hurts For A Little While” for Dore Records in 1964 but didn’t score their first Top 20 hit until “The Time Will Come” in 1969. Although, they enjoyed Top Ten hits such as “(Let’s Go) All The Way” and “Make It With You” in the 1970s they climbed to a higher level of success in the 1980s when they delivered a string of Top 5 R&B smashes such as “It’s A Love Thing,” “Keep On Lovin’ Me” and “In The Mood.” The 1980 hit “And The Beat Goes On” spent five weeks at #1on Billboard’s R&B singles chart. Their signature tune “Rock Steady” spent one week at #1 on the R&B singles chart and was the group’s highest charting Pop hit where it rose to #7 in 1987.

A gifted songwriter, Caldwell wrote the group’s 1980 hit “Lady” that reached #3 on the R&B chart and the Quiet Storm radio favorite, “Say Yes.” A fancy dancer in his youth, he was also responsible for the group’s slick choreography. The group’s last recording “Thankful” (http://smarturl.it/bhucpv) was an inspirational gospel/ soul album that peaked at #3 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums sales chart and #25 on its R&B Albums sales chart. Aside from writing songs, Caldwell also produced artists such as dance siren Carrie Lucas. “Nick had a wonderful spirit and always offered encouraging words,” Sullivan adds. “His character was impeccable and he was always forthright and honest. Most people may not know that in addition to being a great singer and dancer, Nick was a wonderful songwriter. We are truly saddened by this news.  Nick will be greatly missed.  His memory and legacy will live on in the music of The Whispers and the love of his family, friends and fans."

 Funeral arrangements are pending.

Janet Jackson postpones "Unbreakable" world tour to undergo throat surgery

buzzz worthy. . .

On Christmas Eve via Facebook Janet Jackson announced the postponement of her world tour per doctors orders. She disclosed should would be having surgery, but did not specify the type of procedure, the affected part of her body or when it would take place.

Wrote Jackson, “I need you to know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon. It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the Unbreakable Tour until the spring.”

Other than that smidgen of information and a request for her fans to pray, her lips are sealed on the matter.  Jackson had cancelled two dates in October of 2015 tweeting that doctors  ordered her to rest her vocal chords. The 2016 leg of the "Unbreakable" tour was scheduled to kick off on Jan. 9.

Radar Online reports a source close to the 49-year-old star is allegedly claiming Janet must have a tumor removed from her throat "immediately."

“God forbid that this should be cancer of the larynx,” Dr. Stuart Fischer told Radar. “That would abruptly end her ability to ever perform again.” Projecting a positive attitude, the youngest Jackson sibling  ended the post with “Gon’ b alright.”

Jackson released "Unbreakable" as a come back recording that ended up #1 on Billboard. Along with Barbara Streisand and Brice Springstein Ms. Jackson is the only other artist to have a #1 album on Billboard charts over 4 decades. "Unbreakable" ended the year in the top 25 R&B albums of 2015 at #7.

New Syd Barrett Photos released in celebration of the late Rocker's 70th birthday

buzzz worthy. . .
The late Syd Barrett, Founder of British Rock band Pink Floyd would have been 70 today.
To mark the occasion, Syd Barrett’s new official website will be launched at 12 noon on Wednesday (GMT). Celebrating his unique life and career, both of which continue to inspire and enthrall, sydbarrett.com is a unique resource that offers an unrivaled insight into this enigmatic musician.

The website has been created by those who knew him best - his family and friends. The clean, modern design offers an intimate experience for Syd’s fans, incorporating his favourite colour indigo and offering previously unseen, restored family photographs.
Going forward, regular updates will reveal even more exclusive material, photographs and information. Featured songs will receive detailed analysis alongside reviews, essays and images from a range of celebrity guest writers.
Syd’s nephew Ian Barrett says “2016 promises to be an exciting year for Syd Barrett’s fans and we hope that in keeping with my uncle’s talents, this online resource will act as a springboard, inspiring a new generation of artists - both musical and visual.”

About Syd Barrett

Syd Barrett was with the Pink Floyd for just three years (1965 to1968), yet when the band released their greatest hits album in 2001 he had written over a fifth of the tracks.
Born Roger Keith Barrett in 1946 in Cambridge, Syd obtained his nickname from regulars at a local jazz club who christened him after an old drummer from the area.
At the age of seventeen Barrett left Cambridge to study at London’s Camberwell Art School where he was reunited with his old friend Roger Waters. He joined Roger’s band the Pink Floyd and quickly became their main songwriter. The band was named after two Georgia blues men Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Their experiments with feedback and electronic sound quickly made them the hippest band among London’s early psychedelic set.
Although still a prolific songwriter, Syd’s experimentation with drugs meant his grasp on reality was slipping away. He didn’t turn up for interviews and started to behave erratically, to the extent that an American tour had to be cut short.
In January 1968 the band excused Syd from performing live to enable him to concentrate on songwriting and David Gilmour was asked to take his place. By 1968 the band had parted ways with Syd, leaving him to record and release two solo albums ‘The Madcap Laughs’ and ‘Barrett’ and a single ‘Octopus’.
1970 saw Syd retreat to his mothers house in Cambridge where he formed The Stars with some local musicians though his involvement was shortlived. The following years saw him moving between Cambridge and London, where he stayed on friends’ floors. In 1978, having tired of London, he walked back to Cambridge, where he lived reclusively until his death on 7th July 2006, aged sixty.

Girard is about to release his debut track of 2016 with Grammy artist Jeff Russo of the rock band, Tonic. Girard said, "We're all very excited for all the new stuff happening in 2016. FatFingers was a great addition to the sound I was looking for in my recordings. It's always tough to get a fat, but 'crisp' sound from a guitar without tons of processors and affects. But, that's exactly what Fatfingers does perfecty. Not only their obvious choice of pickups, but wood types, designs and cutting edge technology. After testing the design at PDQ Studios, I was more than happy to sign on and endorse their guitars." Girard recently finished the track in Hollywood FL, at PDQ Studios with Grammy Producer Bob St John, where they completed the track and filmed a marketing spot for Girard's new endorsement of the Guitar Models, Fury LS & SS, by FatFingers Guitar Company.

The World's Craziest & Insanely Violent Men's And Women's Wrestling Is Available On Video On Demand

buzzz worthy. . .

NEW YORK, Jan. 5, 2016  -- The most fierce violence ever waged in and out of the ring involving wrestling's most ruthless combatants (men and women) is now available for home and mobile viewing. This controversial content is seen on iNDemand Networks, Vubiquity Network, DIRECTV and Shaw Cable Canada.

The rage and depraved behavior is equivalent within the sexes. Whether the executioners are men or women, their cutthroat actions prove they are out for the kill. Laws do not apply to these confrontations as both sexes vow to take any action needed, legal or illegal to come out victorious. Bloodshed, criminal brutality and moral disregard separate those who reign victorious and those who go to the morgue.
