Red Lobster sales sky rocket after Beyonce mention, plus conservatives controversy over the singer's Super Bowl performance

buzzz worthy. . .

Red Lobsters says they had a pre-lent and Valentines Day surge  of over 33% since last weekend and they have beyonce to thank for it.  Queen Bey mentioned the seafood restaurant chain in her surprise track  “Formation,” that she performed at Super Bowl 50 and sales soared the day after.  “It’s clear Beyoncé has helped create some Red Lobster fans, and we are very grateful to her for that,” Kim Lopdrup, CEO of Red Lobster, told CNBC.  In appreciation for the  free publicity Their now calling  the  Bay Breeze cocktail, the  “Bey” Breezes.
Beyoncé knows how to pull in numbers. Her performance generated more tweetsthan the big game itself.  Conservatives were non-plused with the  Queen Bey gameday show.  Some claim wearing attire that paid homage to the Black Panther Party and used her appearance before millions worldwide to speak out against police brutality inappropriately politicized a family program.  Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani lambasted the singer, saying that her performance was “anti-police.” The attack did not stop there. . . According to fox news host Tomi Lahrens, the “Formation” artist is a contemporary Benedict Arnold for using her halftime performance to push a “Black lives MATTER MORE” agenda.

The backlash goes beyond American shores. . . The Toronto Sun reports that Toronto City Counsellor Jim Karygiannis said before she enterts their country  the Canadian government should investigate Beyoncé and her dancers for possible ties to the Black Panther party.

August Rain to release new music on Feb. 17

buzzz worthy. . .

(NASHVILLE, Tennessee)
-- August Rain is gearing up for the release of their new single, Highway, which has an impact date of February 17th. Produced by Jason Hoard (The Museum, Shane & Shane) at Black Cat Studios, the song notably features rich harmony vocals by Dara Maclean (appearing courtesy of Word Records).

The radio campaign got off to an unexpected head start this month, with the rootsy new Christian music single taking the #1 spot on Play MPEs Adult Contemporary Top 10 (Feb. 1, 2016) alongside highly anticipated major label singles from Zendaya, Seal, Ed Shereen and others.

Highway, from the bands latest album, American Jesus, is a celebration of salvation and redemption, blending high-energy blues with lyrics that glorify the Father for the amazing grace and offer of salvation.

Watch the lyric video for "Highway" here:

This is not about us, says drummer Frank Bowen. This album from conception to realization was only about pleasing the Father and being used by Him in any way He chooses. We aren't rock stars trying to be the next big thing. We are servants of the most high God and our hope is that everyone that hears this song or anything we do is encouraged and uplifted and most of all pointed to the Father."

August Rain is known for their diverse sound, which seamlessly blends worship-laced pop, blues and southern Rock, all while encouraging listeners with a message of hope and encouragement. The Georgia-based group came together as the result of leading worship in their local church. Frank Bowen (drums), Denise Bowen (keyboards & background vocals) and front man, Matthew Janzen (lead vocals, acoustic and bass), have been recording and touring since 2007, but the turning point came in 2012 when the radio-friendly Show Me Your Light jumped onto the Billboard airplay chart as the Hot Shot Debut, and started getting heavy national airplay on the K-LOVE Radio Network. The band has played everywhere from churches to festivals, sharing the stage with Decemberadio, Laura Story, Aaron Shust, Lindsay McCaul, JJ Weeks Band and many others.

American Jesus is available now on CD, vinyl and digital outlets including iTunes.

PHOTOS: White House celebrates dance for Black History Month

First Lady Michelle Obama celebrates dance at the White House Black History Month program
Long before Misty Copeland became a principal dancer in the American Ballet, others paved the way.  Women like Judith Jamison (Alvin Ailey Dance Company), Debbie Allen (dance legend, actress, producer), Virginia Johnson (Dance Theater of Harlem) and Fatima Robinson (Hip hop dance pioneer, activist) were breaking down barriers of discrimination against minorities with one kick ball change, twirl, or hip thrust at a time.  The collective power and gifts of these dance pioneers is immeasurable and they paid it forward on Feb. 8 at the White House mentoring and teaching 51 young Black ance enthusiasts from D.C. about life and dance.
For an hour and a half the East Room was transformed into a dance studio and the rest is history. Never before have dancers of various ages and skill levels learned and performed choreography that was taught by legendary dance masters on the spot -- in the White House.  ("Dance Moms" has nothing on them!) At the same time the history of Black American dance was incorporated in to the presentation.

The Office of First Lady Obama hosted the celebration which was themed, "Honoring the Past While Celebrating the Present; 7 Years of African American History."

From jamming with hosts Jimmy Fallon and Ellen DeGeneres to breaking it down in the Let's Move" workout, everyone knows the first lady fully embraces dance. She had a big dance party for her 50th birthday and a youth dance workshop in 2010, but this would be her final Black History Month event in the even years she has served as FLOTUS.

The First Lady said the event was the fulfillment of one of her dreams.

"Today is a very special day at the White House, and it’s pretty special for me personally because I absolutely love dance.  Absolutely love it.  I think it’s probably my favorite art form.  . .But, as you know, I never pass up the opportunity to, you know, show some moves every now and then.   So to actually host all these extraordinary dancers today, this is really a dream come true for me."

Continuing Mrs. Obama further explained the broader significance of the event:" Today isn’t just a special day for me, it’s really a special day for our entire country.  Because for nearly 50 years, the women who are gracing us here today have been driving a force in the -- they’ve been a driving force in the cultural life of this nation.  From tribal rhythms to freedom songs, from modern dance to hip hop, their work has stirred our souls and ignited our imagination.  Through dance, they have told the stories of who we were, who we are, and who we can be."

Dance Theater of Harlem pioneer told dancers how
about the inspiration for creating a dance school for Blacks
in the segregated 60s that would
offer classical training at the White House's
Black Hostry MOnth event on Monday,
February 8, 2016.
And during Black History Month, that’s really what we celebrate -- we celebrate the people who have shaped our heritage.  We remember those who struggled for our rights and our freedoms, and we reflect on how far we’ve come and how much farther we have to go."
With America being one generation removed from the Civil Rights Era, there is a tendency to assume the doors that are now open were never locked to Blacks and Latinos.

“It wasn’t that long ago that many major ballet companies wouldn’t hire black dancers,” she said. “And the few black dancers that were hired were sometimes asked to wear white pancake makeup to hide their face from the audience. Some of the women who are with us today felt the sting of the discrimination first hand.”

Jamison gently reminded attendees that at times one must "create your own door." At nearly six feet tall, aside from her skin color, she did not fit the standard measurements of a ballerina, but went on to create opportunities and open doors for dancers of color around the world.

Lowe talked about the progress she has seen in getting Hip Hop recognized as an art form.

Each dance pioneer gave a piece of the history before introducing the group they work with. After Debbie Allen led her group in a Katherine Dunham inspired number, Jamison said, "Hallelujah!  Y'all took us to church!" Jamison's group performed two inspiring numbers from "Revelation." Johnson's bunch were on point with a beautiful ballet presentation.
The performances ended with Robinson's group dancing Hip Hop to  "Can You Feel A Brand New Day" which she choreographed for The Wiz Live!

Valerie Garrett President Obama's Chief Advisor and Deborah Lee head of BET and Chairwoman of the Alvin Ailey board were in attendance.

You could feel the spirit in that room.  The African drums were talking.  Saying something 'bout #blackgirlmagic, #blacklivesmatter #blackgirlsrock #weshallnotbemoved.

We just met Beyonce the activist

buzzz worthy. . .

Don't make a Louisiana girl angry. Beyonce (a LA girl by way of maternal lineage) is evidently pissed with racism, discrimination and injustice becoming a part of our culture as a nation ---- and oh, yes, she's fed up with a few haters too. This we know from the unannounced "Formation" video she released Saturday. Many people are talking about how good she looks and how she went after haters. Don't miss the deeper message. Beyonce's entire "Formation" video and field routine is a metaphor for "soldiers" to get in formation to fight against the injustices we continue to see hurled at African Americans. Set in New Orleans, images of unfinished Hurricane Katrina business, a little boy in a hoodie that beckons Trayvon Martin and a wall spray painted with the words "stop shooting us" indicate the artist is confronting racism among other things. Bey is on the verge of starting a different type of movement using lyrical and artistic expression as a form of protest. Critics have claimed she could use her influence to do more. She has responded with a loud =socially conscious message. This video sees Beyonce coming out a politically aware activist for social justice. Take a look. . .
