FULL SPEED AHEAD: Meet Olympic Sprinter Tori Bowie

buzzz worthy. . .

Tori Bowie says she hopes that one day when she drives up to her small town that has no stop lights that she is greeted by a sign that reads: "Welcome to Sand Hill, Home of Tri Bowie." SHemay be on the fast track to her dream coming true.

Fresh from the Rio games in Brazil, this African-American Gold/Silver/Bronze winner is a star in the making. Consider highlighting how her status skyrocketed as a relatively unknown athlete from Sandhill, Mississippi into a gorgeous rising star featured in publications from Elle Magazine and Sports Illustrated, to a recent Stella McCartney campaign, and even new collaborations with Adidas.

Her recent Olympic gold medal win makes her a triple Olympic medalist- after only competing for two years. It places her among our best U.S. women sprinters. That's the stuff heroes are made of. Especially when you consider she is not just another athlete coming back from Rio with a medal, but a young woman with a riveting backstory-one of heartwarming triumph born out of story which began from humble beginnings in Sandhill, Mississippi's foster care system.

Later in life, the two sisters were urged by a high school basketball coach into track and field. Tori took off flying and has paved a series of successful wins at every turn, from the 2011 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships to victories in Rome, New York and the Rio games.

It places her as number #1 in the U.S. and number #2 in the world, leading USA Today to describe her as "The breakout athlete of the Rio Olympic Games."

'Count the Seconds' to Gabriel Collins' October release

buzzz worthy. . .

Gabriel Collins
Count the Seconds
Plastiscene Records
October 21, 2016

Lead tracks: 'Ignoramus', 'Anywhere but Here'

Born in London in 1983, Gabriel Collins had a habit of tapping on any available surface, this continued until his parents bought him a drum kit and he taught himself to play it, as well as seesawing in and out of love with the guitar, but he says his musical life really began with the piano…

Money was tight so piano lessons were out of the question, but when Gabriel was eleven, after the family had moved to Devon, they inherited a piano from a great aunt and under the guidance of teacher Colin Rea, Gabriel flourished. It was Rea who inspired in Gabriel an appreciation of many styles of music as well as instilling in him the skills of improvisation, composition and learning to listen and practice effectively. This grounding led to mentoring sessions in songwriting with keyboard maestro and composer Julian Marshall, of Marshall Hain/Flying Lizards/Eye To Eye fame who helped Gabriel to gain further insight and confidence in songwriting and performance, describing him as “a unique and remarkable voice in popular music songwriting”.

After leaving school Gabriel took courses in acting, dance, singing, popular music and jazz before going on to read BA (Hons) Music Composition at Dartington College of Arts.

Following university Gabriel continued to write music while also gaining experience in recording and performing both solo and in a range of bands such as Donna Blitz, Melonbud, Berry Pomeroy, Moscow Magazine, Disney’s Head and currently the Gabriel Collins Band.

Glenn Smyth's 'Lost and Found' is on the way

buzzz worthy. . .

Birmingham, Englan's Glenn Smyth will be releasing 'Lost and Found' as a single on October 1. The track comes from Smyth's EP 'A Sense of Freedom'.

Mixed by Owen Morris (Oasis, The Verve) and produced by Dave McCabe, ‘Lost And Found’ is the follow up to 'Dead To The World' and 'What Have I Done To Deserve This?', which received support from the likes of BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, This Feeling and XS Noize.

After a youth spent playing football for Derby County, a near career-ending fractured fibula and tibia meant Glenn had time on his hands. This resulted in him picking up the guitar for the first time and his journey into music began.

Two cult Birmingham bands in Escobar and Evil Alien followed, each bringing parallel levels of success in two very different worlds. Escobar - an up tempo rock n roll band in the mold of Oasis and The La's, and Evil Alien - soundscapes, beeps and synths influenced by the likes of Cabaret Voltaire and Depeche Mode, championed by Zane Lowe, BBC Radio 1 and Q Magazine.

After eleven of Glenn's songs were published by two of the biggest companies in the industry, Glenn set about recording his solo album with long term collaborator Dave McCabe, and in a twist of fate, he also began working with a man that had a huge influence on him when he was growing up, Owen Morris. In what without doubt is his strongest work to date, 'A Sense Of Freedom' (named after the cult Scottish film) is a collection of five songs, five very personal compositions which speak from his life experiences with integrity and authenticity.

1) Lost And Found
2) An Eagle Flies Alone
3) Dead To The World
4) What Have I Done To Deserve This?
5) Nobody Knows

“It’s quite something. Extraordinary even. ‘Nobody Knows’ is one of the best, if not the best, thing I’ve done or been involved with for a very long time. The EP is like one of those classic Oasis 4 track singles where the B-Sides are even better than the single. Fucking brilliant”
Owen Morris

When I embraced this with my whole heart, I was truly open and excited about adoption. I meditated on 1 Samuel 1:27 which has helped me over the years. I prayed for the child that God would bring in our lives. The song came to my heart as a thank you to God, the birth parent and the beautiful child that God in his timing will place in our life and heart."

Pres. Obama to travel to Baton Rouge following floods

buzzz worthy. . .

WASHINGTON, DC - Te White House has announced on Tuesday, August 23, the President will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he will get a first-hand look at the impact of the devastating floods, and hear from local officials about the response, including how the federal government can assist and tell the people of Louisiana that the American people will be with them as they rebuild their community and come back stronger than ever.

Obama was criticized for not cutting his vacation to Martha's Vineyard short to visit the flood-ravaged area.  Donald Trump visited the area and delivered supplies last Friday.

In a White House statement the  impact of his absence was acknowledged. The statement read: “The President is mindful of the impact that his travel has on first responders and wants to ensure that his presence does not interfere with ongoing recovery efforts.  He is also eager to get a first-hand look at the impact of the devastating floods, hear from more officials about the response, including how the federal government can assist.”

While away the president was repeatedly briefed on the conditions in Southeast Louisiana and gave his approval for federal aid.

State officials say the flood damage, which hit 20 parishes, is more devastating than Hurricane Katrina.

Representative Mary Landrieu said she hopes Hillary Clinton and President Obama would visit the area too.
