College Signing Day celebrates high school seniors choosing to pursue higher education at a professional training program, a community college, or a four-year college or university and continues Mrs. Obama’s efforts to inspire young people to pursue their education past high school. In addition to Mrs. Obama’s event in New York, more than 1,000 College Signing Day events have been planned in nearly every state by communities, students and organizations committed to helping students pursue higher education. Mrs. Obama is encouraging peopleacross the country to join her in marking College Signing Day by wearing college apparel and sharing the importance of higher education on social media through #CollegeSigningDay and #BetterMakeRoom.
Livestream will be available via MTV’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/MTV. The event will be open press, but space is extremely limited. Additional photo and video assets from the event will be made available immediately following at www.mtvpress.com.
Mrs. Obama’s college access work now lives at Civic Nation, a non-profit focused on innovative engagement and awareness initiatives. The organization now includes members of Mrs. Obama’s Reach Higher and Better Make Room teams. This is the second consecutive year that MTV will host the event in conjunction with Viacom's Get Schooled initiative.
As part of her Reach Higher initiative at the White House, Mrs. Obama has hosted College Signing Day events in Harlem in 2016 with MTV, in Detroit, Michigan in 2015 and in San Antonio, Texas in 2014.
