Labor Department reports job growth in July 2017
The U.S. Labor Department has released data for the month of July and it appears July was a promising month for economic recovery and growth. Over 209,000 jobs were added to the U.S. workforce, dropping the overall rate of unemployment to 4.3%.
The labor force participation rate, at 62.9 percent, changed little in July and has shown
little movement on net over the past year. The employment-population ratio (60.2 percent)
was also little changed in July but is up by 0.4 percentage point over the year, leaving approximately 7 million American still unemployed.
The current unemployment breakdown by race is:
Whites (3.8 percent)
Blacks (7.4 percent)
Asians (3.8 percent)
Hispanics (5.1 percent)
These numbers reflect little or no change in July.
