CNN STORY ON BLACK MEN PROGRESSING ONLY PARTIALLY TRUE

While I am pleased CNN presented a piece that celebrates the current "unheralded" success of Black men  (especially outside of Black History Month),this article lacks balance. I also acknowledge the main goal of the article is to counter negative racial stereotypes about Black men and tell an increasingly more racially polarized America some "good news" about our brothers.  The image of Black men being shiftless, dangerous, defeated, damned to failure and gloom has prevailed in the minds o However, It is the very type of position that Conservatives will use to argue against affirmative action and it is affirmative action that has helped Black men and women progress in the U.S. through educational advancement.  (That is not to downplay the key role Historically Black Colleges and Universities have played in educating and preparing black men for the professional work force.) Black men in America have not "arrived." I appreicate the Stte of Black America  report the NAACP that majority of whom are not U.S. citizens have surpassed blacks in many measureable categories.  The numbers referenced in the story  have been out for years and I perosanlly hae attempted to educate other blacks who have fallen for stereotypes, believing that moreblackl men are In fact, Black women hold more gradute degrees than any other race so does that mean affirmative action should end?  No, because affirmative action is useful in thwarting discrimination in higher education.  We can talk about progress, but why are we still at the bottom of the barrell.  This subject, I believe is bet couched in the context without equal access and opportunity.
