Award Named for Jesse Jackson during pre-Inauguration event

Vote With Autority offered a faith-based component to the historic inaugurtion activities in Washington, DC on January 20.  Held at the Metropolitan AME, the Second Chances Inaugural Gospel Concet and Prayer service was the back drop for the naming of the organization's "Mountain Climber Award." The awards was named the Jesse Jackson Mountian Climber award in honor of the 71 yer old Civil Rights icon.  Briefly reflecting on the his commitment to equality and justice, in true "Mountain Climber" form, Jackson pointedly took the focus of celebrations saying that were honoring the Inaugruation "Come Tuesday morning we still have work to do."  The first recipients of the award were Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (D-OH) and Mike Chandler and Cedric Bailey of the Rejoice Musical Soulfood Network.

The awards is made of 100 percent crystal, is in the shape of a jagged triangle to resemble a mountain top and depicts an abstract person ascending the side of a mountian while holding a cross.

Over 300 attendees from around the nation witnessed muscial salutes to the Cicil Rights Movement and prayers led by Pastor Terrell of the 2nd Baptist Church and Pastor Todd Yeary.  Performers included Earl Bynum and the Mount, Dr. John Butler, Beverly Crawford, Todd Ledbetter, Beau Williams, Bradon Camphor & One Way and Monique Walker Davenport.
