C. Joyce Farrar-Rosemon B.A., MSW, Ed.S, examines this issue through the

the presence of a father. David Popenoe, a professor of sociology at
Rutgers University, states that “the decline of fatherhood is a major
force behind many of the most disturbing problems that plague American
society: crime and delinquency; teenage pregnancy; deteriorating
educational achievement; depression, substance abuse, and alienation
among adolescents; and the growing number of women and children living
in poverty.”
