Statement: DNC Chair Tom Perez on White Supremacist Protests in Charlottesville

DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement in response to last night's parade and today's protests by white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia:
"The demonstrations by white supremacists this weekend have no place in our country. This vile display of racism is an attack on our democracy and an affront to humanity.
"America is no place for bigots. And to be silent in the face of their hatred is to condone it. That's why it is on all of us to stand up to these reprehensible acts and speak out against white supremacy. We cannot allow a group of cowards instill fear in our communities.
"The Democratic Party stands with Governor McAuliffe, Lieutenant Governor Northam, the people of Virginia, and every American united against these vicious and violent attempts to divide us."

Police stop unlawful race driven protests outside of University of Virginia, 1 killed 19 injured

Conflict between citizens, students and white nationalists came to a head in the form of a protest at the University of Virginia Friday night.  Earlier this summer members of the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, based in North Carolina, held a rally in Charlottesville on July 8 to protest the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue in Emancipation Park, formerly Lee Park.

Citizens faced off with a small crowd sending the message that hate was not welcome in the family-friendly college town.  But this time, a torch carrying crowd of racists returned enforce, chanting, "White lives matter"  and "You will not replace us."  Police dispersed the crowd based on unlawful assembly.  Most of the protestors were men.  Their movement is called "Unite the Right."

Protests stemming from the removal of Civil War era statues that conservatives viewed as symbols of their heritage were held at various times all over the country after statues were removed in New Orlean…

Smokie Norful to Release First Book: TAKE THE LID OFF: Trust God, Release the Pressure, and Find the Life He Wants for You Releasing September 5

Nashville, TN  – When the pressure of life seems to boil over—and it does for everyone—Pastor and Grammy-winning musician Smokie Norful has one piece of advice: take the lid off. This concept was inspired by watching his grandmother make her signature dish of sweet rice. When the heat got too high, the pot began hissing and boiling over, like it was about to explode. His grandmother would remind him the only way to avoid an eruption is to remove the lid. Similarly, the only way to avoid an emotional overload is to take our own lids off—that is, to stop being trapped inside ourselves and instead look to God and his grace to show us the strategy for becoming all he intends us to be.
This is the premise behind Norful’s new book Take the Lid Off: Trust God, Release the Pressure, and Find the Life He Wants for You (Thomas Nelson, September 5, 2017).
In Take the Lid Off, Norful— who is the founder and pastor of Victory Cathedral Worship Center, a congregation of 5,000 members with three campu…

MINDSET MATTERS: Are you networking or fleecing?

buzzz worthy. . .

By Mona Austin

Entrepreneurs say, "Your network determines your net worth and you will only be as successful as those in your inner circle."  People do business and live their lives around this notion. It sounds good, but I don't buy into this self-serving philosophy, mainly because the benefits in the relationship will be one-sided.

Any good relationship starts with having common interests or goals and organically develops from there.

You build relationships with people. Not with what they can do for you or because of who they are! You can't use people or their networks to get what you want. It's wrong. And it won't work out well. Instead focus on building people. Building bridges. Building friendships. And building connections that last a lifetime.

If the benefit is persistently one sided, that'snot networking -- that's fleecing.   No one signs up to be used and once they realize they are the "relationship" is usually…
