Pout Pleaser:The Lip Bar creator Melissa Butler goes from Wall Street to Target shelves

Meet Melissa Butler, CEO and creator of The Lip Bar. This millennial got her start on Wall Street, but decided to put a personal mission to raise healthy beauty standards over money. Out of frustration with existing make up brands, she created shea butter rich, 100 % vegan, long-lasting lipwear in the kitchen of her Detroit home. The pout pleasers come in a variety of bold, hard-to-find colors. Butler has mastered matte by adding moisture, which sets The Lip Bar apart. Her product stays on all day without cracking or appearing too dry. I confirmed this claim by testing the gloss and lipstick. She was rejected on Shark Tank, but the exposure boosted the online presence of the brand and helped her secure a retail deal. There were 120,000 hits on her website on the night the episode Melissa appeared in aired. Remarkably, she did it all without spending a dime on marketing. This entrepreneur is successful because she had the guts to stand for what she believes in. The Lip Bar is now available in over 100 Target stores nationwide -- a relationship that came about from a cold call. When she met with Target leaders looking like a model herself could only have helped in pitching a beauty brand.
