Journalist tribute to Aretha Franklin, the People's Queen

By Mona Austin By Mona Austin At a time when superlatives are tossed around in entertainment like confetti at a New Year's Eve party, the title "Queen of Soul" will rest with its namesake, Aretha Franklin. This undisputed truth should inspire artists to always remain authentic to their natural gifts.
The master vocalist once said, "An artist must in some ways be what they sing and play about or at the very least connect to the art in a thoughtful manner. Franklin emerged from a generation singers who crafted their work with their hearts, who were not eager for the assistance of technological advancements to change what flowed from them naturally. That connection can then be transferred to the hearts and minds of those who consume the art whether with their eyes or ears and it settles in their heart and soul. Then and only then can one claim to be an original. Aretha Franklin was such an artist -- the one and only Queen of Soul.
As a journalist and fan I'…

Confessions of an Alpha Mom: Motherhood ain't always easy

buzzz worthy. . .

This is for mothers of rivaling siblings who are too hard on themselves when doing the best they can becomes exhaustive.  This is an account of a few Lord-where-are-you? moments in motherhood.  Don't worry, there is hope for this common parental challenge

Mona Austin

I have a "beautiful family," says nearly everyone we meet. The girls are well mannered, smart, kind and respectful.  What more can a mother ask for?  For me, I would ask my girls to extend those virtues toward one another and to be the same children behind closed doors as in the public.

I want to be transparent regarding motherhood. . .There is nothing more important to me in  life than my children.  BUT, motherhood has been the source of my greatest joy AND sadness.  Thankfully, the last 3 days have been 100% stress free!  That is the best Mother's Day gift ever!  I spent some time alone and some time sharing love and laughter with my family.  However, I have encoun…

In her second televised interview since her husband took office, First Lady Melania Trump sat down with Sean Hannity Wednesday night. It was obvious that she was set on getting America to see her for who she is apart from being married to Pres. Donald J. Trump.
the FLOTUS said criticism from media, comedians, authors, etc. does not bother her but, "The problem is they are writing history and it is not correct."  She said many of those who criticize her are using her family's name to make a name for themselves. FLOTUS said she will remain true to herself and continue to do what she feels is right for the people.  She said she would like it if they focused on "what we do and not just nonsense." Not only is the Frist Layd speaking out, but she is also coming out more than usual.
Twice this week --this  morning and on Tuesday -- she was able to go into the community and spread cheer to families that need it.

THE PRESIDENT:  Many, many years.  Looks like it’s going to be passing, hopefully -- famous last words -- on a very bipartisan way.  And it’s really something we’re all very proud of.  And again, tremendous support from Republicans and tremendous support from Democrats.  And I think it’s going to get a very good vote.  And we’ll see soon enough.  But it will be up for a vote very shortly…
