Local food vendor takes action to fight food insecurity as the Farmers Market season winds down

Prince William County, VA — In an effort to support local families facing food insecurity, Mrs. Magnolias of Prince William County is offering $8 meal plates to SNAP recipients for the remainder of the Farmers Market season.

While SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits can be used to purchase produce at the market, prepared meals are not eligible under current guidelines. To bridge that gap, Mrs. Magnolias is making it possible for customers with EBT cards to enjoy a hot, freshly prepared meal at a reduced cost. All purchases must be made with cash or credit card.

This initiative comes at a critical time, as the USDA recently announced it will not be issuing SNAP disbursements on November 1, a move that could leave up to 40 million Americans vulnerable to food insecurity.

Mrs. Magnolias’ owner, Mona Austin, says she felt compelled to act:

“We’ve been blessed by the community’s support, and as the holiday season approaches, I want to give back. Everyone deserves a good meal — especially now.”

Mrs. Magnolias invites all eligible individuals to visit their booth at either if two Farmers Markets kocated in Prince William County and enjoy a hearty Southern-inspired plate for just $8.The signature N'Awlins styled Red Beans and Rice with sausage will be offered at a special price of $5.
