Senate Blocks Sweeping Trump Tariffs

The United States Senate narrowly voted 51–47 to overturn the broad global tariffs originally imposed by  President Donald Trump on more than 100 countries. The measure represents a rare bipartisan effort to roll back one of the previous administration’s most far-reaching trade policies, which had sparked international backlash and disrupted global supply chains.

However, despite the Senate’s action, the resolution faces steep odds in the House of Representatives. Under current Republican conference rules, House leadership is unlikely to bring the measure to a vote, effectively stalling the initiative. This internal procedural barrier underscores the ongoing divisions within the GOP over trade policy and the legacy of Trump’s economic agenda.
