After a 2-month engagement On Saturday, November 29th, the 56-year-old New Jersey Senator Corey Booker married 38-year-old attorney and political strategist Alexis Lewis in not one, but two intimate ceremonies, first a courthouse “I do” in Washington, D.C., Alexis’s hometown, and then a celebration with family in Booker’s beloved Newark, New Jersey.
Booker broke the news himself on Instagram, writing: “Overflowing with gratitude. We said ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us — Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C. — first at the courthouse, then with our families. Hearts full and so grateful.”
Only about 75 guests — mostly family attended. No sitting senators, no big political names. The couple deliberately kept it small and personal.
The interfaith union was officiates by Rev. Dr. David Jefferson from Newark's Metropolitan Baptist Church (where Booker has ties) and Rabbi Matthew Gewirtz from Temple B'nai Jeshurun in Short Hills, New Jersey.
Former President Barack Obama, called the couple “two of the kindest, most big-hearted people I know.”
