DIVERSE PERFORMERS WILL ENTERTAIN AT MLK DEDICATION

The re-scheduled ceremonies for the Martin Luther King Memorial Dedication will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 16  with an hourlong "Morning Joy" program hosted by journalist and commentator Roland Martin.  Held at the National Mall, scheduled performances will feature Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, Jennifer Holliday, Sweet Honey in the Rock and Shirley Murdock.

Hosted by PBS News Hour's Gwen Ifill, the dedication portion of the program is set to begin at 9 a.m. in the paved forecourt of the memorial and will be telecast to approximately 10,000 spectators on the big screens.


That part of the festivities is not open to the public, but some networks wil broadcast it live reports the Washington Post. 

President Barack Obama will give the keynote address at 11 a.m.

Members of the King family arre expected to attend, along with Civil Rights icons who marched with Dr. King including  fthe Rev. Jesse Jackson, former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, former NAACP Chairman Julian Bond and Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga.
Spectators can access the West Potomac Park public viewing area via four gates on Independence Avenue Southwest.
