Gray was the subject of a federal investigation that alleged he accepted a $425,000 campaign donation in 2010 from billionaire contractor, Jeffrey Thompson (code name "Uncle Earl"), in exchange for business favors. The embattled former mayor denied those allegations, but Thompson two weeks ago Thompson pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges for a lesser sentence.
Who Bowser will face in the general election is yet to be determined.
