"42" shows baseball hero in a romantic light
We've seen Jackie Robinson depicted as a hero, but in the new movie "42" we also get to see him as a husband.
The 90-yer-old widow of baseball legend Jackie Robinson is pleased with "42," the film about her husband's tumultuous entrance into major league sports. Mrs. Robinson told Essence Magazine she was glad the movie showed how in love they were as a couple.
The movie is about the history-making signing of Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers, the frist African-American to integrate Major League Baseball.
Standing by her man while he faced disgraceful taunts on the filed and dangerous threats in his personal life, Mrs. Robinson's relationship with her husband was woven in to the story appropriately.
Jackie Robinson died over 30 years ago in 1972. Over the years Mrs. Robinson has kept her husband's legacy alive by maintaining a scholarship fund that was set up in his honor.
