Confederate flag removal?: Gov. Nikki Haley to call for its removal today
buzzz worthy. . .
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley reportedly will call for the removal of the Confederate flag from the state capitol. The recent mass murder of 9 Black South Carolinians at Mother Emanuel AME Church by a white supremacist prompted further debate about the significance of the flag. Those who are against the Confederate flag feel it represents our nation's painful racist past, while those who are for it say it symbolizes Southern pride. Haley is expected to announce the flag will be placed in a museum during a live press conference scheduled to air on CNN today at 4:00 p.m. ET today. Republican senator Linsay Grahm is expected to join Haley at the press conference in support of her decision, though in years past he noted the "is part of who we are." Democratic senator Clementa Pickney, who was also the pastor or Mother Emanuel AME, was also a shooting victim.
