President Obama and Rep. John Lewis Commemorate Voting Rights Act at 50

buzzz worthy. . .

The diluted landmark Voting Rights Act turned 50 on August 6, 2015.  One of the leaders in the freedom movement, Rep. John Lewis or Georgia and President Obama commemorated the occasion at the White House as shown in the above video. The occasion was bittersweet as the Supreme Court overturned a key provision, Section 5 of the VRA in 2013, leaving the law vulnerable to future revisions.  Obama has urged  Congress to restore the Act to  its original state.
