OCTOBER SURPRISE: Old tax report shows Trump may have avoided paying taxes for years, legally

buzzz worthy. . .

The New York Times released an exclusive report Saturday claiming Donald Trump may not have paid federal taxes on nearly 1 billion dollars ($915.7 million) in 18 years by taking advantage of a legal loophole. Trump surrogate Rudy Guilian said on "Meet the Press" today the GOP candidate is a "genius" who took advantage of a tax code that saved his enterprise. To have lost a massive amount of money does not suggest Trump was a genius, but ofcourse, it is Guiliani's job to defend him.

The Times said the records were mailed to a reporter who has been covering Trump by an undisclosed source. Trump has yet to confirm or deny the story. However, he did not deny he avoided paying taxes during his first debate with Hillary Clinton last Monday, leaving the impression that he is a tax dodger. Trump took a loss on the purchase of several failed Atlantic City casinos in the 90s.

Should the same protections exist for the average business owner who fails?

CLINTON STATEMENT ON NEW YORK TIMES STORY ON TRUMP TAXES

"There it is. This bombshell report reveals the colossal nature of Donald Trump’s past business failures and just how long he may have avoided paying any federal income taxes whatsoever. In one year, Donald Trump lost nearly a billion dollars. A billion. He stiffed small businesses, laid off workers, and walked away from hardworking communities. And how did it work out for him? He apparently got to avoid paying taxes for nearly two decades -- while tens of millions of working families paid theirs. He calls that ‘smart.’ Now that the gig is up, why doesn’t he go ahead and release his returns to show us all how ‘smart’ he really is?”
