The New Year is getting off to a rocky start for singer Kim Burrell.  In a recent sermon that went viral the Houston based pastor and popular gospel vocalist stated homosexuality is "perverted." The online community generally rejected her opinion in what may turn out to be career suicide.

In America with  the legalization of gay marriage homosexuality is more openly accepted. While homosexuality runs rampant in Black churches,in the Christian worldview same sex attraction is identified as a sin n the Bible. Burrell, 44 delivered a sermon that she said was designed to free gays in 2017.

She said homosexuality is a spirit of delusion and confusion that has deceived many men and women adding, “You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted… You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.”

Burrell's remarks wer expected coming from a Christian.  Those in the congregation at Love and Liberty Fellowship were encouraging her in agreement.

The backlash online was so forceful from Christians, her colleagues and fans that she has since responded in a separate video to clarify her position o the matter.

For now Burrell is taking the condemnation in stride, acknowledging the negative feedback as a spiritual attack. "I am not shaken, ['cus]I'm out here for God.  I cam on here because I love people.  To every person that i dealing with the homosexual spirit, I love you ['cus] God loves you.  But God hates the sin in you and me."

Pharrell Williams and Janelle Monae were both involved in the upcoming movie "Hidden Figures" which features Burrell on the soundtrack Williams produced.  Monae is one of the co-stars in the film.Williams responded indirectly to the controversy by posting a statement about inclusion in humanity. Monae shared his post, stating ehre she stands on LGBT issues.

"I shouldn't even have to post this as you guys should already know where I stand but If you do not pls know I unequivocally repudiate ANY AND ALL hateful comments against the LGBTQ community. Actually I'm tired of that label. We all belong to the same community, a shared community called humanity." Janelle Monae

With the entertainers condeming her, the ramification of her opinion could have long term impact on her career.
