Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain: Two celebs commit suicide within 1 week
The alarming suicide trend is spreading. Two celebrities died of apparent suicide in one week. On Tuesday, fashion and accessories designer Kate Spade was found hanging in her New York apartment. Spade was known for creating vibrant dresses and hand bags that appealed to housewives and working women. She was 55.
By Friday morning CNN announced the loss of one of their own, Anthony Bourdain. Celebrity chef and host of CNN's "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown," died in Strasborg, France. He too hung himself. He was 61.
In ordinary journalist practice, a suicide report would be individualized. However, the parallels are hauntingly staggering and it is worth pointing out the similarities.
The CDC reports suicides have increased by 30% since 1999. Online suicides are also increasing.
