Law Suit Filed to Stop Presidential Phone Alert citing First and Fourth Amendment violations
A FEMA test phone alert issued as an emergency alert labeled as a "presidential alert", may violate your First and Fourth Amendment Rights according to a law suit filed in New York. The alert was sent to millions of cell phone users Wednesday afternoon and is designed to notify citizens in advance of national disasters. Recipients of the text can not opt out. A separate alert was broadcast on radio and television stations. FEMA was supposed to run the test in September but delayed it due to Hurricane Florence. No other president has authorized such a system in previous administrations.
