Renewed 'Walking Dead' will be filmed in Virginia

Season 10 filming for "The Walking Dead" will begin in the central part of Virginia this June for an October 2019 premiere. The full cast is expected to return with two female protagonists in the lead for the 10-episode production. The exact city has not been disclosed.

"Happy" singer Pharrell Williams, a Virginia native with producer credits on the NASA film "Hidden Figures" met with movie execs to promote Virginia as a viable place to create and produce media content.

Ralph Northam is pleased to have AMC bring more jobs to his state. “We are delighted to welcome AMC back to Virginia,” said Governor Ralph Northam. “The series will provide high-paying jobs for our skilled workers and will invite economic opportunity for Virginia businesses large and small. Uniquely, the series also brings with it a devoted global fan-base, creating immeasurable added value for the Commonwealth as the franchise’s powerful spotlight shines on Virginia.”
A Forbes writer is less enthused about the show coming to Virginia, calling the location and "uninspired" place.
The third part of the series will follow two female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse.
“Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad,” AMC said in a release.
“The Walking Dead” also has a spin-off called “Fear the Walking Dead,” on the horizon which begins airing its fifth season on June 2.
