Trump tosses around the idea of hosting the G7 at his golf resort
The G7 Summit will be held in the U.S. next year -- possibly at a Trump country club. Even though there are ethical implications (see emolument clause in the U.S. Constitution regarding procurement rules) to even consider using his property for the said event, Pres. Trump suggested he won't benefit financially. He said his team looked at 12 sites and they felt nothing compared to the bungalows at his Doral country club/gold reosrt in Miami. So, it's not about the money Trump said. He claims that as president he has lost between $3-5 billion, a detail that is unverifiable since he's never turned over tax records.
A CNN guest expert said that hosting the summit at Doral amounts to using the office of president to do business. As of now the plans are tentative. But if the president decides to play "host with the most" and takes money for food, golfing or anything else this would be illegal and a violation of the United States Constitution. Regardless of if the gatherng is held at a Trump venue, he benefits from free advertising by discussing it in a press conferene at the G7 in from of international media.
