AM I ELIIGiBLE TO RECEIVE A STIMULUS CHECK? HOW DOES IT WORK?
Pres. Donald Trump signed the CARE ACT into law on Friday, March 27, bi-partisan legislation that provide financial relief to American families and businesses in response to the worldwide affects of the Coronavirus. Misinformation about the stimulus check has been circulating online. Checks will be issued starting the week of April 6th and here is what you need to know to get ours:
-Will you be ineligible for the stimulus check if you do not file taxes first? No. Receiving a check is not contingent upon your tax filing status. The information requested when you apply for the check can be obtained by the Departments of Taxation and Revenue, the Social Security Administration or from your current or previous tax filing.
Some people have various circumstances as to why they have not filed taxes, so filing status will not be held against you. However, the government is encouraging everyone to file their taxes despite the national shut down and take news filing extension, July 15.
- What is the amount of the pay out? The pay out, starting at $1200, will vary based on Total Household Income and additional funds are available for families with children ages 17 ($500) and under. - Do I need direct deposit to receive a stimulus check? It sure would convenient for both the sender and the recipient and save the government money on postage, but the answer is "no."
