TROY SNEED'S HEARTFELT SONG MOVES UP BILLBOARD CHART

By Mona Austin

It's easy to be rocked in the cradle of worship while listening to the latest hit from Emtro Gospel recording artist Troy Sneed. "My Heart Says Yes" is a love serenade to Jesus set to a Latin-inspired musical arrangement reminiscent of Robin Thicke's "Lost Without You."   (The passive listener may mistake Sneed's whispy falsetto for Earth Wind and Fire's Phillip Bailey -- yes, it sounds that good.)   The single from the  CD by the same title has landed in the  #5 spot on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart, the singer's first top 10 debut in his twenty year career.

Said Sneed about the success of the recording, "God is good. I wanted to write a song that loves on God and not ask Him for anything. He told me that if I do that He would open new doors for me and he has.  So, I'm just happy that the song is touching people and encouraging them to examine how they worship.”

"My Heart Says Yes" is a radical departure from The Stellar award winner's traditional gospel style, recognizable on such choir songs as “The Struggle is Over” (#1 for 12 weeks.)

But fans who heard selections from the new cd during the Mother's Day online listening party can attest that the "old Troy" hasn't gone anywhere.  Notes publicist Bill Carpenter, "The public probably first noticed Sneed as a choir member in the film “The Preacher’s Wife.” He also coached the Georgia Mass Choir for the Whitney Houston soundtrack. He later recorded solo albums for Savoy Records before launching his own Emtro Gospel Records label in 2005. Ever since, the label has placed 18 songs by various artists on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart, including a half dozen by Sneed such as “Work It Out,” “The Struggle is Over”  and ”Hallelujah.”

However, it is a heartfelt worship song that has brought Sneed to this career high and if worship is designed to bring worshippers closer to God, it doesn't get much more intimate than this.

  • THE TROY SNEED INTERVIEW
    By Mona Austin

A year ago, Troy Sneed, the founder of Emtro Gospel, planned to close its doors.  Deflated results from the last CD the independent label released were discouraging.   Feeling he had nothing to lose, Sneed decided to record a song that was completely outside of the box. The biggest risk he'd taken in his 20-year career is paying off.  "My Heart Says Yes," landed in the #5 spot on Billboard has revived his career.

In our recent interview, Sneed discusses his experience as an independent artist, the impetus behind his current hit, being "rapture ready" and the woman who has his heart, his remarkable wife Emily who  pushed him to become a full-time artist and worked two jobs to support him.
