Displaying heightened fear about the uncertainty of what is going to happen when election results are announced, businesses around the nation are boarded up and authorities are on high alert for post-election looting and violent protests. Out of caution they are trading safety for sales.

No matter who wins the 2020 bid for president, law enforcement agencies and social media companies anticipate visceral reactions, especially in areas where racial tensions over social justice issues escalated and large cties like DC, NY adn LA. Mayor of the Big Apple Bill Deblasio says if things turn violent there he NYPD is prepared to respond immediately.

Gun sales are at a record high, which the Brookings Institute says is a sign of the coming violence in the aftermath of the contest. They say contested election results could fuel agitators, on both sides like the Proud Boys, Antifa and Black Liives Matter to mobilize against a perceived threat.

Election results are expected to be contested over late arriving ballots and other issues that could delay votes that both Democratic and Republican lawyers are already arguing over in court.
