 MISS JANE PITTMAN. A WOMAN CALLED MOSES. And many more. Actress Cicely Tyson made African Americans remember where they came from. She lived to see her memoir get published this week. A long, incomparable road she traveled. She worked until almost the very end, pouring her gift onto the world like smokey maple syrup. What a journey of which to be proud. Well done, QUEEN CICELY. Dead at the age of 96.

Winans, Sr. has wed his long time girlfriend Deneen R. Carter. Carter is a 57-year-old physical therapist and minister at Perfecting Church in Detroit, founded by Winans. By Mona Austin Much of what the average American knows about Frederick Douglass lies in the pages of "The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave."  His memory has lived on through the annals of history as a heroic abolitionist.
