THE WOMAN KING film tells the epic tale of African Warrior Women
Gina Prince Blythewood ("Love and Basketball, Secret Life of Bees) directs "The Woman King" starring Oscar winner Viola Davis. In 19th Century West Africa Davis portrays Nanisca, the general of Agojie all women military unit who protect their kindom form intruders and nearby Ojo Kingdom.
Known as the DahomeyAmazons the women from Benin were not able to bear children or get maried. Their purpose in life as warrior women was solely to preserve and protect the kingdom.
The film is being called the gladiotor movie of our time. It opened in theaters this week to early praise from crtics. CinemaBlend says the film turns Davis into an action star.
