The Living Legends Foundation Presents its 10th Annual A.D. Washington Scholarship Golf Tournament on Friday, April 14
(Atlanta, GA – April 12, 2023) – The Living Legends Foundation (LLF) presents its 10th Annual A.D. Washington Scholarship Golf Tournament on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Crystal Golf & Country Club, 100 Crystal Lake Boulevard, Hampton, Georgia, located in the Greater Atlanta area. Golfers from across the country will compete in a day of golf and network while supporting the mission of the Living Legends Foundation, which also celebrated its 30th anniversary in October 2022. The proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit the Living Legends Scholarship Program for Black college students at any accredited institution pursuing careers in the music industry, specializing in marketing, communications, distribution, and music-affiliated areas of entertainment. This year’s beneficiaries are students of both Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominately White Institutions (PWIs) including George Mason University, Pomona College, Hampton University, University of Southern California, and Yale University. Previous scholarships have been presented to Texas Southern University and Shaw University, among others.
This year’s Honorary Chairperson is radio legend Frank Ski of Cox Media Group’s KISS 104.1 in Atlanta, and WHUR’s 96.3 in Washington, D.C. The nationally syndicated broadcaster is best known as “a rainmaker of urban radio” and remains a central figure in the Atlanta Greater area through his work on radio and his many notable charitable efforts. In 2019, Ski was honored by the LLF Foundation with the Jerry Boulding Radio Executive Award. Also, India Graves is the tournament coordinator and has worked closely with the LLF’s Golf Committee to facilitate the day-to-day coordination and production.
This year also marks the organization’s official return to the annual tournament since the COVID-19 global pandemic. “On behalf of the Living Legends Foundation, we are pleased to return to the golf course and continue the organization’s mission to support and aid young people as they matriculate through college and prepare for a career in the music and entertainment industries,” says the LLF’s Golf Committee Chair Sam Weaver, who has been instrumental in building the tournament as a fundraiser and growing a network of intergenerational golfers.
In 2019, the LLF Golf Tournament was renamed in honor of the foundation’s longest-serving chairman, the late record executive A.D. Washington, who led the foundation from 1998 to 2011. He passed away on November 22, 2017.
“We are proud of the organization’s efforts to rebuild and refocus the tournament and to make it another staple event for the organization,” says David C. Linton, the Chairman of the Living Legends Foundation. “Golf is the one sport that keeps current and former music executives connected, and the annual fellowship has been a major attraction and has built new relationships and has reignited longstanding relationships.”
ABOUT THE LIVING LEGENDS FOUNDATION
Founded in 1991 and incorporated in 1992, the Living Legends Foundation, LLC is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization and has been funded primarily with corporate contributions and individual donations. The 30-year-old organization has expanded its mission to assist those who have served the music industry and who have a confirmable need. This assistance is provided in a manner that maintains the dignity of those who may receive financial help. Many former music industry employees worked during a time when 401Ks and retirement packages were not available—and even today, in this era of downsizing and mergers, the uncertainty of career stability within the industry has grown. Proceeds from the event will enable the LLF to continue to aid those in need.
Over the past 30 years, the foundation has also recognized and honored more than one hundred distinguished leaders in music, radio, retail, and media.
