Artificial Intelligence and its impact in the music business comes down to fairness and honesty

(TSN): Producer/rapper Timabaland's dream of collaborating with Biggie may come true. He alluded to releases a song using a rap by the late Hip Hop legend. The Biggie feature may be made possible through the use of Artificial Intelligence.
The widespread use of Artificial Intelligence, both positively and negatively is taking shape in all capacities. In music, technological innovation has already been used to "resurrect" artists for concert performances such as the well known holographic rendering of Tupac Shakur at Coachella in 2012. The deceased artist was able to "perform" with fellow West Coast rappers Snoop and Dr. Dre. While providing a tangible experience with bygone artists can be gratifying, there is a down side. In the music industry, where sampling is common, creators can be particularly vulnerable to over-reach and may potentially impact the bottom line across the board from artists to writers and producers.
One of the most common applications of AI currently in the music industry is through suggesting music. In this manner it is an enhancement to music marketing. Algorithms are being used to study people's listening habits. The style and types of songs that a person likes are then recommended via streaming seevises and/or advertisements. This seems harmless; perhaps it is deemed an efficiency that can increase sales. But AI is much more robust than that. The problem is that no one knows how advanced it can get or how far it could go.
This is why regulations are coming down the pipe.
AI can be manipulated in a myriad of ways. Potentially what we hear being rapped /sang/played could be completely generated with AI coding, blurring the lines between imitation and reality. AI Music, which is music that is fully digitally rendered. is already becoming more popular causing the fear of actual humans losing work. One of the pros is that creativity may know no bounds with AI generated music. A clear con is using theb work of others and changing it enough to make it appear to be your own, also known as forgery. Just as it always has. come down to ownership and human beings deciding to operate ethically and legally.
What if code patterns become too assumptive and start producing undesired outcomes? Such concerns are not unfounded. It has been a challenge at times for experts to figure out how to decode machine driven intelligence. Machines have not completely taken over, however. Digital instruments can play, vocals can even be digital but so far humans are still bringing the emotional elements to songs.
The BIden Administration is working with the leaders of tech companies to find ways to take advantage of AI technolygy while simultaneously protecting users from being violated. Vice President Kamala Harris sat down with the CEOs of 5 tech companies to assess the risks of using Ai and adress safety concerns. Mona Austin of The Slice News inquired about having intellectual property stake holders at the table to address the broader application and implications of policies that are being developed to mitigate risks and loss. A senior administration officials say they are engaged with the intellectual property community to address the issue of ownersiop as it related to Artificial Intelligence.
