Campaign to kick off summer outreach with eight-figure investment in engagement programming with Black organizations, community groups, and faith centers nationally and across battleground states
Summer programming includes continued investments in Black media to engage Black voters where they are
Five months till Election Day, Trump still has virtually no genuine engagement plan for Black voters
Today, Team Biden-Harris is launching Black Voters for Biden-Harris, a national organizing program to bolster our continued historic investments in outreach to the backbone of the Biden-Harris coalition – Black voters. These voters were instrumental in electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020, paving the way for the Biden-Harris Administration to deliver a record low Black unemployment rate, Black wealth increased by 60%, more Black Americans with health care coverage than ever before, and billions forgiven in student loan debt that disproportionately impacts Black borrowers. Now, these same voters will be critical to defeating Trump’s racist and toxic agenda at the ballot box – again.
Black Voters for Biden-Harris will launch today with:
An event in Philadelphia with President Biden and Vice President Harris, in addition to national surrogates, community leaders, influencers, and many others
An organizing event at a local Black-owned small business in Philadelphia with President Biden and local business owners to continue discussions around this administration's commitment to increasing Black wealth
An event with national organizations and local community members focused on direct voter contact
Our campaign believes that Black voters deserve to hear from Team Biden-Harris, and they deserve to have their vote earned, not assumed. That’s exactly what we are doing through historic investments in Black media and outreach, creative engagement efforts, culturally competent content and innovative organizing initiatives. No campaign has valued Black voters like we have, including through investing earlier and with more money than ever before talking to Black voters.
In the coming days, weeks, and months, Black Voters for Biden-Harris will ramp up the campaign’s outreach and organizing, as detailed below.
Bolstering Our Historic Outreach Operations with Summer Organizing Partnerships with Influential Black Organizations, Community Groups, and Faith Centers Nationally and Across Battleground States
This summer, the campaign will:
Partner with trusted Black organizations to increase outreach to Black voters and continue to build the campaign’s strong presence in key states;
Collaborate with groups on voter education and registration activations, both online and on the ground
Utilize partner organizations’ networks to strengthen our voter protection efforts to safeguard the Black vote from continued MAGA attacks
These partnerships will bolster our on-the-ground operation to reach Black voters where they are. These organizations are inclusive of millions of members who will now utilize their extensive networks to ensure Joe Biden and Kamala Harris return to the White House in November.
Mobilizing Black Voters for Biden-Harris with a Weekend of Action
Building on the excitement of the launch events in Philadelphia, campaign surrogates will fan out across the country for press events, organizing kick-offs, and community conversations. Our robust surrogate operation will be a key component of not only Wednesday’s event but also the week of action that will follow. Surrogates will travel across the country to help host these events and engage with media – traditional, Black-owned and outlets catering to Black audiences.
Following today’s event, Black leaders across the country will hold events in the battlegrounds and kick off a weekend of action – including Black church engagement in Arizona, new office openings throughout Georgia, a community-led block party-style celebration in Nevada, community hub events across barber shops and hair salons in Michigan, and more. Organizing events will also take place throughout the weekend in Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Hampshire, Maine, Nebraska, Florida, and Georgia.
On Thursday, following the President's Wednesday events, Black Voters for Biden-Harris will also host a nationwide stakeholder call with thousands of supporters to build a network of trusted messengers within Black communities across the country. The call will include remarks from several national leaders and be inclusive of an organizing pitch to supporters.
Trump is running on an anti-Black agenda, talking down to Black voters
To no surprise, the Trump campaign has no real outreach or engagement plan to reach Black voters. Unlike our campaign, Trump believes that he does not need to put in any effort to earn the support of Black America. Trump used his time in the Oval Office to make life worse for Black America, and if reelected, he will go to enormous lengths to undermine and hurt Black communities by repealing Obamacare and ripping away health care from millions of Black Americans, continue to divide the nation by emboldening white supremacists, and support policy that works to widen the racial wealth gap. And even if he did have a positive agenda for Black Americans, he doesn’t have the resources or support to tell it.
The Trump campaign has made it very clear they believe all they need to engage Black voters is free fast food. Most of the RNC minority outreach centers they bragged about are now closed, his paid content is riddled with disinformation, and even Black Republicans think his engagement plan is baseless. While Donald Trump and the racist campaign he is running will never be able to adequately engage Black voters, the Biden-Harris reelection team will continue to be aggressive, innovative, and thorough in our work to earn the support of Black America.
The following is a statement from Biden-Harris 2024 Principal Deputy Campaign Manager Quentin Fulks:
“Today’s launch of the Black Voters for Biden-Harris coalition is yet another example of our campaign working diligently to earn every single vote. This coalition and the newly announced summer outreach and engagement programming serve as the next phase of our campaign’s ongoing historic investments in outreach to the backbone of the Biden-Harris coalition: Black voters. While we are busy putting in the work to earn Black America’s support, Donald Trump continues to show just how ignorant he is. Hosting janky rap concerts doesn’t hide the fact that he lacks the resources and competence to genuinely engage our community.
“We will continue to be aggressive, innovative, and thorough in our work to earn the support of the very voters who sent Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House in 2020 and will do so again in 2024.”
