Biden Ends Re-Election Bid and Endorses VP Kamala Harris

By Mona Austin
Pres. Joe Biden has stepped down as the 46th president of the United States after various members if the Democratic coalition mounted an exhaustive pressure campaign for him to resign four months before the election and a month before the Democratic National Convention. The announcement came as a surprise to staffers in his immediate orbit as he sent the message out on Instagram and other social media platforms.
In a letter released on Sunday, July 21, that was not on official letterhead, he wrote that he will finish out his term but will surrender his bid for re-election feeling it is best for the American people. The president was in recovery from the Coronavirus in Rehoboth Beach, DE when he made the decision. He thanked Vice Pres. Kamala Harris, his rightful successor, for being an "extraordinary partner" and the American people for having "faith" in him.
Pres. Biden has endorsed Vice Pres. Harris to replace him while some top leaders in the fractured party are said to be working on a replacement in time for the DNC. This will be a serious timing and financial challenge. Harris will inherit Biden's finances sinch they were on the ticket as a team and the electoral college votes gained during the primaries. With this change of plans, her search for a Vice President must begin.
Per the standard in all of his official addresses, the trounced Commander-in-Chief ended the statement saying, "Remember we are the United States of America," sustaining a message of unity.
A seismic shift, the transition to a different Democratic campaign party leader will men the Democratic party itself must head in a new direction altogether. The providential Congressional Black Caucus and Jim Clyburn remain loyal to Harris while the VP is on shaky ground with others. The infighting over Pres. Biden's ability to lead has revealed a fractious party that has lost synergy and raised question about who is leading it. With a central figure in the Congress of the White House to lead the caucus it is bound to be a hard road ahead for the party. While Harris said she is ready to step up
Republicans immediately took advantage of the disjointedness among Democrats in responded to the news. "At this unprecedented juncture in American history, we must be clear about what just happened. The Democrat Party forced the Democrat nominee off the ballot, just over 100 days before the election. Having invalidated the votes of more than 14 million Americans who selected Joe Biden," Speaker of the house Mike Johnson (R-LA) wrote in a post on X.
The president will still call 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. home and run the country. He says he will also work to help VOP Harris defeat Republican Donald Trump.
Meanwhile. . .
About an hour before the big news broke, Kevin O'Connor, Biden's White House Physician said in an update that the POTUS is recovering well as he continues to be treated with Plaxovid and all of his vitals are "completely" normal.
