Although Fulton Country DA Fani Willis has been disqualified form prosecuting Donald Trump in the high profile Georgia election interference case from 2020, she is not out of the legal picture yet.
In the latest legal development in that case, a judge has ruled that the Georgia state Senate can subpoena Willis. This is part of an inquiry into whether she engaged in misconduct during her prosecution of President-elect Donald Trump. However, Willis has been given the opportunity to contest the scope of the lawmakers' demands and will fight to avoid testifying which could force her to release sensitive records.
In response, Willis is seeking to overturn the ruling. Former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes, representing Willis, stated in an email to The Associated Press, "We believe the ruling is wrong and will appeal."
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shukura Ingram issued the order on Monday, stating that Willis has until January 13 to argue whether the subpoenas seek information that is legally protected or confidential. Judge Ingram indicated that a final order would be issued later, specifying what Willis must respond to.
